Hello everyone. I am new to this site.
The site seems to be a very nice site.
I have a 7 month old Yorkie{Willow). He is just a cutie. I also have a 10 year old kitty (Zoe). I love them both dearly and enjoy spoiling them so much. I am a first time owner of a Yorkie,so needless to say I have a few questions I would like to ask the experts on here (lol).
My Willow as I stated previoulsy is 7 months old. He currently weighs 10 LBS. He is not over weight according to the vet. He is just beautiful. I have UKC paperson him. His mom weiged 8 lbs and his dad weighed a little over 3 lbs. I have been told by a breeders on another site(don't want to mention the site),that my Willow should not be studded because he is not the standard size.
My vet.stated that the standard size varies but the AKC sets their on guidelines.
Being told this information ,does that mean when I stud him (once he turns a year) old),I would have to stud him with a large Yorkie?
I clearly got the impression from the bredder on the other site that because he is large he isn't worthy or not a true Yorkie. Again he is UKC and has is simply beautiful. He is in the process now of growing his skirt.
Needless to say my response to the previous breeders information was that,I love him dearly and my love for him is not defined by her standards or anyone elses standards.
The remark really hurt my feeling that a animal lover would imply that I shouldn't stud him.

Does anyone knows whether I should ,or should not stud him ?Are there groups that participate in plus size Yorkies studings.

Thanks Willow's mom.

Ginger is 10 lbs also. She is a little big for a Yorkie. We have the papers on her and everything. The AKC standard is 4-7 lbs. I have had people tell me she is a Silky and not a Yorkie. That's simply not true. She IS a Yorkie and even my vets and other knowledgeable Yorkie people have said she is a Yorkie. Some Yorkies get larger than others. There are several on here that are well over 10 lbs. This is over the "standard" size but in my opinion makes a good healthy Yorkie (I know the dog's health is not determined by its size). You love your baby and that's all that matters! As far as studding him, I cannot offer any advice there. That would be a question for professional breeders. In many people's eyes, the fact that he is over the "standard" is probably going to be a deterrent. If your plans are to stud him, I would suggest continuing to search for the answers from knowledgeable breeders.
