So, the trial schedule came in the mail today! Yay!

But I have another question (or two or three). We are almost last. In fact my ring schedule is: 11:15 Rally Advanced A (9 dogs), 'to follow' Rally novice B (21 dogs), 'to follow' Rally novice A (7 dogs) and I am in this last group. I'm guessing somewhere in there the judge will take lunch, it is at their convenience.

A couple questions: Would you still get there first thing in the morning (trials start at 8-8:30)? or do I have to no matter what? What time , if not first thing, would you get there? And, will my walk through time be just before my group, or the Rally novice B group? Or will they tell me that the day of?

I am confused. You are running which level? I assume novice A? It sounds like the running order is Novice A followed by Novice B followed by Advanced A? Is that right?

Honestly, it sounds like a small trial. I would probably get there early. Are there any other levels being run? Excellent? Advanced B?

I am used to doing multi ring trials that usually run 1,2,3 in one ring and 3,2,1 in the other, so I just make a day (or night) of it.

Is this AKC? If so read up in the rule book on what "to follow" means. I know in AKC the "to follow" means that the class cannot begin before noon and the classes will be ran in the order listed (so it sounds like Nov. A will be very last and ran right after Nov. B).

I would show up early enough to watch some of the Advanced dogs, plus I know my dogs and they are fine hanging out on show grounds...the first few trials I went to I got there super early and had fun watching others with their dogs.

I would also advise getting there in time for the Novice class to start (so the B class) as many times the walk thrus will be combined for the classes of the same level...so for your case I would get there around noon that way in case the class is able to start at noon, you won't miss your walk thru.

Hope that made sense! Have fun smile

Thanks guys!

The schedule is written in a table format so I was the thinking the 'to follow' meant to follow the group above.

I am living in the boonies, so I am sure it's a small trial. 2 days- 146 dogs in obedience and 66 in Rally each day. Five rings.

There is Rally novice A/B, excellent A/B, and advanced A/B.

Obedience novice, Open A/B, graduate open, Utility A/B, versatility, and wildcard

66 dogs in AKC should not be a long day. We do 90 dogs, 2 trials (which means we have to reset the course 8 times during the day), we are APDT (longer courses) and we usually run from 8:30-3 with a break in there for lunch. It sounds like this may be a shorter day and if your dog is willing, I would go and watch the whole thing. Take a friend, pack a lunch and enjoy the day.

For me, trialing is a fun event. I have a bunch of Rally peeps, we hang out, we train together, we trial together, I have met lots of friends while trialing, it's just fun.

What that means for AKC is that Advanced A starts at 11:15. When they are done (approx 5 minutes per dog), then the walkthru will be done for Nov A & B, with Novice B being judged first, then A, OR they will have a walk thru for Nov, B, judge that, then have another walk thru for Nov A. Soo, you definitely do not have to be there BEFORE 11:15 because they cannot start early.
If that is your judge's first assignment of the day she most likely will not stop for lunch but will have that AFTER she is done. If she is judging something else before 11:15, she probably will have lunch between Advanced and Novice.

In AKC rally, they cannot start the class before the posted time. So you have lots of time to get there. Just remember that walk throughs take place right before your scheduled ring time.

No matter when Risa and I are in the ring, I always get there early. It gives her time to check things out and settle. Plus, it gives us a lot of time to brush up on some behaviors and do some last minute 'cramming.' As to how soon you need to be there, it really depends on your dog. Some dogs are fine just getting there, going in the ring, and going home. Others need some time to check things out and get some prep time before competing. I know I can't take Risa from kennel right to the ring though there are many dogs that can (and need to) do just that.

Good luck and have fun!
