|I am in school to be a vet tech so i have seen alot of spays.
The vet makes a small insicion into the midline. This is the spot away from organs and is safe. They remove the ovaries and uterus. There are two layers they stich up, one on the inside and one on the outside. The inside layer they use dissoveable stitches. The outside can be eaither that or ones that are removed. The spay is called a Ovahysterectomy ( ova=ovary hyster=uterus ectomy=removal)
Spay is typically done at 6 months but can be done as early as 8 weeks or 2 pounds. There is no adverse effect to spaying a young puppy.
