|When I first got Bailey, I brought him to the dog park near us. Our park has both a large and small area. Unfortunately, there never seemed to be anyone in the small area. So, I let him go in the large area once or twice.
The first time he did OK, but got rolled a couple of times. I was worried but held myself to just closely supervising. The next time I went, though, 3 hounds of some type ganged up on him in a big way - I think they thought he was a squirrel! So I didn't bring him back anymore - no one little to play with, and the big guys can be too much.
Now that we have Ziggy, though, everything is different. I take them to the small dog side and we don't have to worry about if there's anyone to play with - we always have a party goin' on! In fact, I've noticed that more people with small dogs come over to the small side when Ziggy and Bailey are there, I guess it's like any party, you go where the fun is! We've managed to get quite a crowd there, but even if we don't, they always have each other.
Now I'm glad that I don't put them in the big dog side, since hanging out more at the park I've heard some real horror stories, not just about small dogs, but about BIG ones who got ripped up. I saw a young Lab who had had her haunch just torn so badly by some other dogs. I don't want to risk it with my guys. Even a friendly big dog, in their excitement running hell-bent, could accidentally step on a paw and break it.
