Her incision goes from about an inch above her knee to an inch below. That top inch it seems she gets to very easily. I came to the conclusion last night that her bandage kept slipping down a bit. It was putting the bulk of it about midway down her incision though it still had some coverage up top. I think that was irritating her so she kept picking at the bandage and licking the cut. Last night I took the wrap off completely that the vet had put on her. I used some of the materials to wrap her knee back up, but then put an ace bandage on her. To keep it up I wrapped it once around her belly then back down her leg. Woke up this morning and checked, the bandage still intact and no drainage when I unwrapped it to look. She hadn't messed with it at all. The only issue is the ace wrap loosens up a bit through the day, so I have to re-wrap it more often. I don't mind though, anything to get her on the road to healing and not messing with it. Thanks for the support guys! I appreciate it more than you will ever know. Its a relief to know we aren't in this alone. hug

The ace bandage sounds like an excellent idea. Just make sure it's not so tight to cut off any circulation. Glad it is working so far. I think as long as you can keep the bandage in place without slipping you will be OK. This may be more a case that the edge of the bandage was irritating the wound rather than her deliberately trying to get at the wound itself. way to go

So far keeping the ace bandage on it is helping. She still manages to get it off sometimes, but she's not damaging it at least. Her incision finally looks like it is starting to heal. Can't wait to get back to the vet on Thursday and have him give us a bigger cone and rewrap it up so she can't get to it. Stinks being over an hour from the vet with only one car.

Just wanted to update on Betsy. It has been 3 1/2 weeks since her surgery. We saw the vet today, and he said she is making exceptional progress. He says normally he waits 8 weeks before letting them have freedom from constant kenneling. He says to bring her back in in 3 weeks (making that 6 on recovery) and he may be able to release her early. This is great news! She is sure getting restless being kenneled so long, when in her eyes she feels good and can move around without pain.
