And she grew up. A lot. I can take a shower and not worry about her devouring the mattress in the meantime. I can cook dinner while she potties in the yard and not freak that she is eating ALL of the mulch. I sit at my computer and work, her at my feet snoozing or happily licking my slipper.

She weighs 16 pounds now and sleeps in the bed with us. Her crate only gets used when we leave the house now.

And she is bleeding all over my carpet.

It's a small price to pay for the awesome companion she has grown into being. blue dog

I find myself nostalgic for LuLu's crazy puppy days. It would drive me nuts if she had stayed that hyper 24/7, but sometimes I miss the antics.

Hi Nakita. Tetsuya reached that age at about a year and a half. He no longer needs to be crated when nobody is home. He doesn't get into anything anymore. I just wish he would give Deshi that memo. laugh out loud

Aw yes it is sad yet happy when they grow. I missed out on that part, I often wonder what Jiro and Yuki were like a as puppies. I bet Jiro was the cutest but then what shiba isn't?

Things I don't want back but still sometimes miss:

Biting my pants during walks

Pulling the wallpaper down

Teasing the cat

Going absolutely crazy when I return from work. She still goes a little crazy, but calms down within moments. It used to be a good 15-20 minutes of jumping, vocalizing & mouthing. I worked really hard to stop that behavior, and now I wish (once in while) she still did it.

Sometimes I go to the MSIR website to look at the shiba puppies for adoption, but then I lay down on the couch and Auggie sleeps at my head and Phog goes to sleep at my feet and I think, "none of us would be napping if there were a puppy here."
And then I think, "hmmm. No, I am the only one who wouldn't be napping if there were a puppy here."

Oh, she still bites my pants when we walk! Well, with this weeks heat it is more like my ankles. And the welcome homes still get quite loud and chaotic! I am holding onto those things, though. Thankfully, the things that threw me into the embrace of Prozac are gone...the thousand No's that had to be said, the bribing to get the rusty nails out of her mouth, the inability to catch her. Ever. So that we could go to bed...I think I'll freeze her just at the stage she is, if possible.

Yay!! Other than the bleeding part! Remember this day, but most importantly remember the days before, just in case you get that Shiba itch for another one! I still don't think the bad they are as puppies is enough to deter me from doing it all over again though cloud 9!
