Help us Make the Best Adoption/Rescue Site on the Web
I've go some grrrrrreat news to tell you about that could save thousands if not millions of Dogs lives but I'm afraid Dogster would call it spam or certain Dogster watch-dogs would bark out about it.
It would be the same as the Admin telling you about the organization like they did in this topic, but different for some reason if I say the same thing about another Non-Profit Organization.
What I want to tell you about is the "Animal Gaurdian Ribbon"-"First Official Ribbon for Animals"-Orange ribbon.
The orange ribbon is officially registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office "FOR PROMOTING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF AT-RISK ANIMALS."
The orange ribbon represents support for animals who suffer from neglect, abuse and/or those whose lives and well-being are in jeopardy.
People who help animals, advocate for them and/or support organizations that help animals, wear the orange ribbon as a symbol of support.
Be proud to be show your orange ribbon, it's the first official ribbon for animals!
Maybe if you google it, you be able to bone-up on it!
Hell0, I am currently looking to adopt another dog ... I search each and every day. I would like to see where the pet is, age, sex, housebroken, altered, and good with small children and other animals. What I am having a hard time with, is how do you get the dog in another state other than where you live. What are the fees, and do you fly, drive, etc, its hard to find any information on that.
How about a page for the rescue itself? It would have to use a different template then the individual dog pages, but someplace where a rescue could list and link to all their dogs, keep a happy tails list, provide adoption criteria ect.
I also have some of the things the poster for our rescue would like to change about Petfinder (her suggestions, not mine)
If there is a Happy Tails link, it would be nice if the latest adopties were added to the beginning of the list instead of the end. That way, people could see if the dog they are interested in has been adopted without going through pages and pages of adopted dogs.
if you list icons like they do indicating special needs, no kids ect, it would be nice to have one that lets people know if the dog requires a fenced yard. We are pretty flexible on that one, but some dogs NEED a fenced yard. kaluha will. He may never walk well on lead, so could not potty on lead. it's easier for potential adopters if they know that upfront.
I just searched adoptable dogs here in my state and many of them are not up to date, the dogs have been long adopted, I know this because these dogs were at local shelters/rescues. How would Dogster keep the pages up to date? Some people join Dogster just to give more exposure to a dog they are fostering/they rescued/or that they have heard about, and when the dog is adopted they do not return to Dogster.

IDK if anyone suggested this or if it would work, but would it be possible to have ppl who might want a dog be able to fill out a form that lists what they want in a dog and their life style and where they live & then when they submit this a list of dogs most closely matching those search criteria comes up, king of like screening what the people want before they fall in love with a picture. IDK if this would work but possible some kind form with the same questions being answered on the potential owners side and the rescues side and some kind of computer link connection so that you could search that way.....since there can be so many dogs to look threw and sometimes ppl dotn know what they are looking for.
I was adopted out of San Diego California, my forever home is in British Columbia, Canada, so I understand the problems you face.
Just so you know, any rescue agency that allows shipping of dogs (some wont do it) will allow you to pay your adoptionfee via paypal or money order. As for transportation, if it is close enough, I wuld drive but if your not, my mama found that Alaska Air had the better shipping policies for unattended live animals. It was not cheap to fly me from California to BC but Alaska Air did it and now I'm home. Let me know if you have any other questions about this subject.
