GO!

Ugh, I got the "some people" thing today!

The Service and Therapy Dog forum is for all service and therapy dogs regardless of whether or not their status is legally defined by federal or state law, how they are trained, or whether or not they are "certified." Posts questioning or disputing a person's need for a service or therapy dog, the validity of a person's service or therapy dog, or the dog's ability to do the work of a service or therapy dog are not permitted in this forum. Please keep discussions fun, friendly, and helpful at all times.

The Home Depot in my area has no signs about pets, but when I tried to take my (pet) dog there once I was yelled at and kicked out. shrug
This was years ago before this incident or whatever. I asked an employee standing outside if I could take my dog in and he said it was ok. As soon as I walked in the door though, another employee yelled at us from a few aisles away and said no dogs are allowed.

Tiaki, you ought to know by now that when the general public sees an un-vested dog in anything other than a pet friendly store, they automatically think it is a pet. Even for those that know the law, an un-vested PUPPY that is obviously pretty young would still raise red flags.

There is no reason either Lowes or HD should have to display signs saying "No dogs". That said, I have seen both going to those signs since that last incident.

I only went to home depot with my dog because everyone told me their stores were pet friendly and I asked an employee before we went in.
shrug
I have also heard that some Lowes and some other stores you would not expect are Pet friendly.

There is no reason either Lowes or HD should have to display signs saying "No dogs".

In my area, two of the Home Depots allow pet dogs and the third does not. That one does have a "no pets/service dogs welcome" sign at the main entrance. I was told that the difference between the stores was due to insurance reasons though I don't know that for a fact.

Given that in my area it seems that pet dogs are allowed in HD unless there is a sign that says otherwise, it would seem to me to be quite reasonable to assume that pets are OK, especially if you have seen them in that particular store previously. Of course in this case it would also be necessary to be prepared to leave quietly and without a fuss if asked to by one of the store employees.
