How to Help

The Service and Therapy Dog forum is for all service and therapy dogs regardless of whether or not their status is legally defined by federal or state law, how they are trained, or whether or not they are "certified." Posts questioning or disputing a person's need for a service or therapy dog, the validity of a person's service or therapy dog, or the dog's ability to do the work of a service or therapy dog are not permitted in this forum. Please keep discussions fun, friendly, and helpful at all times.

I have started to become quite passionate about service dogs (psychiatric service dogs in particular). Sadly, my mom will not allow me to train service dogs for other people in her house at the moment, but I still want to make a difference. I have been considering starting some sort of service dog charity organization (it would probably just be me and I would start like a website or something) and I would do fundraisers and start projects in my area to educate the public on service dogs. What do you guys think? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can help out the SD community? I am only a teenager, which limits me a bit, but I know that even a teenager can make an impact if they care enough! What exactly shoud I raise money for? I want to raise money to help pay for a service dog for someone who needs one, but I'm not sure how to find someone who is looking for a service dog, but cannot pay. Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Well, if you wanted to raise money. You could possibly contact a local agency whom places service dogs both at cost and for free and see if they will give you some information on how you can help them fund raise for a particularly needy individual or someone in financial hardship. that will also give you a name as a reference so when people ask what you're raising money for you'll have an exact cause.

I helped fund raise money this way for my local shelter. I collected toys, old food, used dog items and blankets to take to the shelter to help dogs in need.

Good luck on your quest.

I'm so glad you want to help!!

Please contact Rhian Savage of psych dog Charlotte, she started a nonprofit organization to do that very thing! Also, contact healing allies, laughing eyes kennels, etc and ask how you can help support people trying to get a psych dog.

Once again so glad you want to help! There is such a need for this.

That is a cool thing to do there are so lil teens getting involved these days.
I am in maine and I use a Multi service dog. That means she helps me with many disabling things I can't do for alerting with my diabetes to Mobility issues.
It is good that you want to do something for US who use Service dogs.

I saw on U-tube a family raising money for a service dog for their 2 children for alergies that are keeping their children out of school. That might be a family you could contact and see if they need help.
