Unconventional Service Animals

The Service and Therapy Dog forum is for all service and therapy dogs regardless of whether or not their status is legally defined by federal or state law, how they are trained, or whether or not they are "certified." Posts questioning or disputing a person's need for a service or therapy dog, the validity of a person's service or therapy dog, or the dog's ability to do the work of a service or therapy dog are not permitted in this forum. Please keep discussions fun, friendly, and helpful at all times.

My Beth alerts me to my migraines from the ground, and most certainly does not need to be carried to sense their approach. The only time she is carried is when we are in elbow to elbow-type crowds, such as you see with events such as the San Diego Comic Con.

She is quite capable of getting my attention and making sure I take my medication without having to be in my arms to do so.

This post does not make since I am not sure if they have washed it or not. I will say for most part they make a lot of since somewhat about other animals being SA's but I feel we cant say what or if an animal is truly
legit.

@ Maizie Moo -- I did read your original post, above the "Ugh... should be "THOUGHT" I knew everything. I didn't. lol" post. I don't understand why it would have been removed, or why it took days for a decision to be made.

All the posts in this thread, both negative and positive, have helped me. Thank you to everyone. I am pursuing locally some other things regarding this. I'll post as I learn more and if anyone has questions for me.

I have been protesting near the museum for over a week now with a sign stating that the museum is not allowing SA's and that it is a violation of NC State law. This afternoon I noticed a rather official policeman visiting the museum. I hoped. An hour or so later he came up to where I was demonstrating and told me that I could go into the museum now. He told me that I had to talk with the woman at the desk. She informed me that according to present state statutes and their interpretation, my rabbit was considered to be a service animal and I was free to visit the museum whenever I wish.

I'm not relaxing yet because she also made it clear that she was not happy with this and implied that the museum may exert pressure to get the law changed. I am working now to prevent that.
