Nixon is about 8 months old now and has started limping on his front left leg. It started about a week ago. He doesn't seem to be in pain, no whining or licking at it, still wants to run around and chase Daisy...but he definitely limps. Has anyone else had this problem? What was it and how was it treated? I'm worried about hip displaysia or elbow problems and will be taking him to the vet asap but I thought I'd check with you guys 1st.

could be that he just pulled something while playing or maybe a bone chip. its always hard to say. Id give him rest for a couple days and see if it improves, if not then check with the vet.

I'm sure you've checked his toenails, right? In between his toes too? Saints have high-arched toes so theres a good possibility theres a burr, pine needle, stick, etc in there.

Since the snow has been here, i swear Lucy can pack at least a half pound of snow between her toes!

HAHA, just yesterday, after i was shoveling, we went inside. Lucy had icecubes inbetween her feet and she sounded just like a horse with horseshoes on our hardwood floors. I was laughing so hard! I gotta say though, i'm looking into booties too, since her feet are looking a little pink and sore...

He's been to the vets and we were told to keep him quiet (not that easy with the puggle around!) for a couple of weeks and then if he's still limping we need to take him back. That was a week ago. Last night he freaked out playing in his 1st snow fall, slid on the ice and did a classic Bambi maneuver ending up on his belly with all 4 legs splayed out. He looked up at me with this look on his face like "What the heck just happened!" Then at 7:30 this morning he fell down the stairs! That scared the crap out of me! He just stumbled down the bottom few but he made an awful noise. He's clumsy as hell but I'm worried that he's more so now because of whatever's going on with his leg.

We've checked everything and there's nothing apparent that's causing any pain. Plus, he doesn't whine or yelp...he just limps.

Yeah definitely check between the toes for snow. Sarge used to go to the dog park nearly every day or every other day. Since day light savings time, he hasn't been able to go as much (only on weekends). I now drive home in the dark and the park closes at sundown. Point is, he's out of shape.

I took him to the park Saturday and let him run around in the snow like an idiot. He loved it. He came home limping. After a few days the limp disappeared.

He'll get more park time in better weather but just saying limping can be caused by an out of shape dog. Sarge will get used to running at the park again; more when the daylight time increases.

Nixon wasn't out of shape tho. He was going to the dog park daily and running around with our puggle. We've kept him in and tried to keep him quiet since I started this thread and he's still limping. We'll be taking him in for diagnostics as soon as his insurance kicks in.

My post wasn't as well thought out as it seemed. Now I recall Sarge limping a bit here and there when we were hitting the park on a very regular basis.

I do recall him limping after a few random visits but it went away quickly. Doesn't hurt to get checked out anyway.

GL!

He's really stiff when he gets up in the morning too...or after a long nap. I wouldn't worry so much if he was an older dog but he's only 9 months old!
