Oscar is 16 pounds and I spend around $10 a month on food. It helps that I get free deer meat and organs from a hunter. Not a whole lot but it helps. My mom also uses coupons and looks for deals so we don't spend more than $1 a pound for turkey and chicken and no more than $2 a pound for pork or beef.

Conker is about 25 pounds (actually less but I like that number) and costs anywhere from 0$ to $60 a month, depending on what I buy, how big it is, and where I got it. Big variation, yes, but I guess a general average would be something like $30 a month.

Chicken: $.69 per pound
Turkey: $.69-$ per pound
Pork: $1.50-$1.70 per pound
Beef: $2.00-2.50 per pound
Liver: $1.00-2.00 per pound
Heart: $2.00 per pound
Other: $.50-$2.00 per pound

Those are the normal prices for meats in my area. I am crafty, though, and usually only buy when they are in the sale/manager's bin or have a nice juicy 30% off sticker slapped on the front.
If I buy from the farmer's market I throw price rules out the window. It's better quality meat so the low price isn't as important.

I do not remember what Stella and Chewey's costs here. Next time I go to the Grange (the only store that sells it) I'll write down the prices for you.

I feed three 30# ish Aussies...so about 90#s a month - somewhere around $150 a month and it is mostly grocery store meat. I look for deals and keep a full supply in backup to get me through periods of no sales. I do belong to a raw co-op though and get things that I can't get normally (i.e...green tripe).

I got the prices for Stella and Chewey's in my area.
3# raw costs $16, 6# raw costs $29. I'm in Oregon so that's the actual cost, since there is no sales tax.

If things keep going like they have (I'm only a week into raw), we'll be spending about $45-50 a month to feed two 30 lbs pups and the 65 lb shepherd. So far, I've found liver for $2/lb, snagged 3 lbs of pork for ~$1.60 total in the bargain bin and I buy whole organ-in chickens to make the bulk, which we don't pay more than $0.65-0.70/lb for. Sams down here also has great deals on bulk eggs, which I cook and offer for the morning snack, since my guys eat their meat in the afternoon.

I practically haunt the mark-down bins. A local grocery store has crazy sales on "bad" meat, so I've commandeered our chest freezer and stock up. Hubby's fries and ice cream can live in the house freezer big grin

I started off feeding only pre-made to my 14 and 17 lb. dogs, which cost $80-$100 a month depending on which brand or which protein I bought (chicken is way cheaper than venison or bison, for example.) I’ve been working towards 100% DIY raw and trying to really shop sales. I live in an area of CA where the prices for everything are ridiculously high, I’m jealous that so many people here can find stuff for $2/lb. or less!

Gizmo, have you looked at getting stuff from Creston Valley http://crestonvalleymeats.com/cart/
or http://www.sfraw.com/?

Creston Valley is great if you have the time to wait at a stop for delivery. $5 delivery charge and while you buy boxes they aren't 40 pound boxes. He sells BARF style stuff as well as meat only grinds and whole stuff. See the calendar and email him if you think this is a possibility. All the stops aren't listed.

SFRAW has incredible stuff but pricy. Possibly it is better quality for the same price you see at the markets.

And google your area for markets you didn't know about. I found loads of ethnic markets when I went straight instead of turning left on one main road. Several of them have online flyers so I can go get the deals when they happen instead of just hoping for something good.

Hey Maxwell, thanks for the leads, I'm definitely going look into them! I'm about 2 hours north of SF, but if I was to buy in bulk or find someone who wants to buy some stuff too, that could make it worth the trip.

I feed a 71-lb active male about 1-1.5 lbs a day, and spend around $45/month. As I am finding cheaper whole prey sources, I am paying less. I now can get whole rabbits for $1.25/lb, whole piglets for $1.00/lb, and $1.37/lb for whole chickens (head, feet and innards all intact).

I have a close friend who gives me all the leftovers of his annual moose kills, so Farley gets enough moose meat for the whole fall/winter for free big grin

We used to feed high quality kibble, and spent about $60-$75/month on it.
