I certainly won't travel for miles for a bit for the dog either. I will combine reasons to go out that way though. A couple years ago a wonderful ethnic market chain here in southern California had an unheard of deal, $1 a pound for lamb ribs AND $1 a pound whole pork loin. That market is 50 miles away from here but on the way to my sister's house 90 miles away. Hey Sis, want a weekend visitor???? More normally I combine trips to 20 mile away markets with trips to Costco, thrift stores and I get my CO2 for my planted fish tank over that way as well. I could combine a trip to the place that is 50 miles away with one to the zoo, theaters, museums and IKEA or even an arboretum/garden tour. And I don't go just because I feel like it - all these markets have online weekly flyers!

What's the ethnic market chain, Maxwell? All the ones I've tried seemed really expensive.

Nothing outstanding ATM but have had loads of fun shopping at the closest Valu+.

Beef ribs $1 a pound - not unless we go out that way plus I have 20 pounds of lamb bones already which is killing me, beef ribs are one of Max's favorites.

Beef liver $1.19 a pound- over there all the time, maybe will stop by as don't have much liver ATM.

Neve r been there but usually have nice fish prices and this week pork neck is $.79 a pound if you can stop the counter guy from chopping big ones up. Not as good a deal as it sounds, I have to throw away a lot of it as Max surely doesn't need all that bone. Fun and difficult to eat meal for him as the meat on a pound neck bone is just about the amount he needs per day.

I still wish I had had a freezer at the time of the $1 lamb ribs and pork loin, would have bought as much as the store allowed! That was 3 years ago.....

Thanks for the advice on the different cuts and where i can get odd cuts. Certian parts of vegas are overflowing with mexican markets. I think china town with all of their oriental markets would have some odd cuts too. I bet a neck bone would be perfect for my older husky mishka. She's a power chewer.

This has nothing to do with raw but i noticed that petsmart is now carrying deer antlers, elk antlers and moose antlers. I've heard so much about them that i bought a couple to try them out. Mishka has been working on hers for a few days and hasn't even gotten a quarter of it done. I think i'll buy those for her rather than the bully sticks. she can get through the large bully sticks within an hour and a half.
