Start with a small chunk, that is for sure! Since that sardine went over so well I would reduce the bit to no more than half the size of the sardine, maybe smaller.

Why do you want to do fish next? It shouldn't ever be a big part of the diet. I only offer it for the omega 3 as it isn't as high in minerals as red meats. ~200 grams of salmon has less than a mg of iron and zinc while 200 grams of 85% ground beef has 9 mg of zinc and 4 mg of iron.

I did not know that. That's good information to have.

So should I move him onto red meat? I just don't know which one since he eats beef ribs just fine I don't think there's much of an adjustment period necessary. And organs really aren't his thing unless they're cooked or in a treat.

What type of read meat would be best to make a meal out of?

Audrey eats canned sardines in olive oil as a treat a few times a month. She LOVES them!

For beef-we get the inexpensive boneless roasts or stew meat. Whatever is on sale. We don't have any non-grocery store sources either, except for mail order, and I would rather my $$ spent go towards the food than shipping.

We never really introduced new proteins slowly, but did add extra probiotics/digestive enzymes. Now she only gets probiotics if she has a period of loose stools or if she has a lot of beef-beef gives her gas if she eats it exclusively for an extended amount of time.

If your dog had THAT dramatic of a reaction to a sardine, I wouldn't repeat sardines until he is well established in his raw diet. My dog was switched to raw because of daily vomiting, she vomits cooked or any kind of processed foods, and she never had a bad reaction to a raw food like that.
