Re: Brazil nuts

Up until now I’ve only supplemented Winston’s diet with salmon body oil for the Omega 3s, however I’ve now decided that adding some raw nuts may not be a bad idea. I’ve tried googling but haven’t come up with much in the way of guidance. Any idea why they recommend “crushed brazil nuts” instead of just tossing him a whole one every couple of days if he happily chews it?

I also came across an article that discouraged nuts because the fat content could lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and pancreatitis. I have to think though that our raw fed dogs are pretty accustomed to a higher percentage of their diet coming from fat and that a single nut every day or couple of days wouldn’t be something to worry about.

@Winston-Miles, The only reason I can think of for crushing the nut is because some dogs might swallow it whole or maybe they don't chew it enough.shrug

Currently going through the nutritional analysis exercise on ND. This thread was very helpful, at least to get some opinions.
I'm reading 'Raw & Natural Nutrition for Dogs' by Lew Olson and it has a very interesting chapter on minerals, vitamins and supplements.

Just curious what type ester C do you guys give I didn't know if there's different varieties or something and how much would be good for a 20lb dog and 55lb dog?

Do you give it once a day or twice?

I don't give much supplements anymore used to give solid gold seameal and grizzly salmon oil when she was new to raw, but now she only gets seameal stuff every once and a while..

She is doing pretty good.

She does get glucosamine and condrotine once a day.
