My order got messed up, they don't carry buffalo tripe anymore, they never got my money order (payment options didn't include paypal or credit card), and they said they changed policy so my free shipping would now be $35. cry

I need a plan B. Anyone in the north east order from a good nearby source?

At least you still have your copy of the money order?? Call customer service until it's free (the shipping). If you ordered from a catalog, and it is not out of date, that catalog should be their contract with the customer. I don't see why they would change policy part way through the contract with you. I'd definitely find another company. Not being from your area, I can't give advice on a new supplier. Sorry. This really sucks.cry

From www.taylorpondfarms.com

When I made my order and on the invoice I printed out, it says shipping is free (you had to make a minimum order for free shipping but i don't even know how much it didn't take long for me to get it) I have a copy of the money order though. THanks for the advice K10 greatly appreciated!

Eta, on the main page it has "hot news" which says if you read down "As of June 1st 2009 we will no longer ship orders directly to customers or provide home delivery of individual customer orders"

But I had never gone to that first page when I went to TPF website and no where else did it say that.

When I was making out my order first there was a shipping charge, then I ordered another item and there was free shipping it said. I wasn't contacted about my order until over a week later.

I am sorry to hear that!!! frown I love TPF and don't know what I'd do without them, but I do not order directly through them, I order through a distributor... seems to keep it less messy that way.

Thanks Kolbe I guess I didn't understand you could order directly like that..I just used the sites shopping cart..is it free shipping from your local distributer or do you pick it up yoursef? I got no answer from them yet when I emailed and the site doesn't list a customer service number, but there are numbers for distributers in my area..not sure if i should contact them about this..

I don't pay shipping when I get through the distributor (which is through my raw co-op). She has 4 mega huge freezers in her garage and she does all of the order splitting, billing etc. from her home, and that's where we pick-up from. TPF is based in Michigan (I'm pretty sure) and as far as I understand it they do scheduled truck drives to various drop-off points for distributors, so she is the one that picks up all the orders. She tacks on a nominal amount of cents per pound to the products in order to cover her gas and make a small amount of profit for her time and effort. I don't know just how far or how many places TPF drives orders to. I don't know much of the details as to how the TPF/distributor relationship works... I just know that items are not shipped via mail in our co-op's case, they are delivered to the distributor. I think they may not be charging her a delivery fee as long as there is a certain amount of weight/items to deliver... since the co-op covers most of Western New York I'd assume it's probably usually a sufficient amount of stuff.

It gets weirder! I contacted the nearest distributer to me and she was very nice enough to reply the same night with this:

"I am going to be honest with you. I have not heard from Taylor Farms in weeks. I get emails from them. Last I heard his truck broke down [a string of problems!]. I dont mean to be flip I just honestly dont know what is going on but I think its not good. A few years ago on the "raw boards" they were all talking about him and a similar thing happened with orders as has happened with you. He resurfaced and said he ironed things out but seems like he still is in a mess."

But she offered to help me with other sources so maybe that will work out and take care of that in the morning. I'm going to make a fuss to TPF about my lost money order though!
