Gorge / fast or even Big Food Fed Less Often is actually a great way to feed a dog that seems insatiable. When dogs aren't allowed to gorge as they are designed to do, they never feel full (I am not saying this is for every dog, although I think most dogs can do it - right now I only gorge one of my three dogs). He is a lab that eats anything and everything and couldn't tell you what he ate because he eats so fast. So giving him a really big piece of food works for him. He does just fine on fast days (sometimes I give him a chicken foot because I am feeding the other dogs).

It is exactly as you state. Feed a larger amount of food and less the next day, or 2 to 3x the amount you would normally feed, then don't feed for a few days. I worked Moose up to gorge and rest by feeding more food one day, less the next.

My friend's poodle was very bony through the hips, she's much better now, still thin but good thin.

To add muscle he needs to work out. Doggy push ups. Sit pretty. Climb hills. Walk through ladders and ground cover so he picks up his feet. Pull stuff. Sprints.

It could just be his build, slim lean muscle. And just adding more food isn't going to add muscle.

Some dogs just need more. Auda eats as much as Briz and she weighs about twice what he does. She eats 2% of her weight and tends to be a little chubby. Auda eats 4% and is a perfect weight.

I would give an extra half pound or so, see what happens, then add a little more until he gains the weight. You may have to back of a little to maintain. Observe carefully and you will figure out the correct amount of food for your particular dog.
