I posted a picture from this morning that is the same angle as his profile (see his profile for pic). I am feeding him 3% of a 25 lb dog. His ideal weight is around 25 (is my best guess). I wonder if I am feeding enough. Usually 11-14 oz per day. Now I wonder if he is losing weight too fast. He is on chicken with introduction of beef. We are going out of town, so I planned to keep him on chicken til we get back, no surprises for the petsitter...

PS he gets a vigorous 1 hour walk per day as well.

Holy Moly! That is amazing! He looks terrific!

Guess it was a good thing you put him on 3%. He would look like a whippet by now if he was on 2%.

My vet says come on by and get the dogs weighed when ever we like, might try weekly weigh ins. He may just be developing muscle tone and the weight isn't all that different. I think your plan is a terrific one but a weight check might be a good idea to see if it needs to be adjusted a bit.

He looks great! You're doing the right thing! 3% is fine.

My dogs get just 2% and they maintain their weight.

Not sure whether you do it right? How does he act? Is he happy, energetic? eager to go on a walk? If so, then he is perfectly fine.

He's much more active than when we first got him. He's up and down our deck stairs now, where he would avoid them before. Not begging for food either...

YAY TRUCKER!!! Our vet just told us that Drake must lose 11 pounds -- Millie could lose a few too -- so I may try your chicken diet. Which parts/ograns/bones do you give him on a daily basis? I'll just multiply that by 3.

Wow Trucker!! You look great! How long has he been on the raw? Precious and Gracie need to lose quite a few pounds and we have been doing raw for about 3 weeks. I am feeding 1.5% of 45lbs and they are losing slowly but surely. I hope we see those results as well!

Millie and Drake, it is only a chicken diet because he just started and we are going out of town in 2 days for a week, so we are keeping him on chicken until we get back. I've been giving him little pieces of beef and venison and I will let him try those things when we get back. All of them will be on chicken while we are gone.

Bassetville... I think that a lot of it is also the vigorous walks. He couldn't go 20 minutes when I first got him. He can go an hour now if it isn't too hot.

I have had Trucker about a month. I put him on raw right away and he was transitioned from 2 meals to 1 as soon as I could, to keep him consistent with my other pups.

Go Trucker! He's looking awesome. IMO, 3% of his assumed ideal weight should be plenty. A few dogs that I've put through 'fat camp' were regularly given 1.5% of their ideal weight, and it usually trims 'em down nicely. Sure, they aren't pleased with going from free-feeding to restricted meals, but it's for their own good.

Now, if only I could follow the same regimen for myself... laugh out loud
