You kids g'off- my lawn!

This was only funny in retrospect: I had an unidentified hunk of meat-covered beef bone someone had given me. It appeared useless as real food, but looked ok to gnaw on for a while. Probably a vertebrae or two almost entirely encased in meat and fat. Emphasis on the fat.

Vance went to town on it, mostly just licking and nibbling and generally loosening things up. Well, he went and chewed the fat into a thick, deep pool on the top of the thing, bit down on it, and got his top molars stuck in it. The pressure down followed the quick movement up created a vacuum and the thing was just hanging there.

We both kind of freaked out a bit, him because there was a giant hunk of RMB hanging off his mouth and me because I thought he'd got his tooth wedged in the bone somehow (although in thinking about it, I'm not sure that's possible since teeth are tapered and bone is not that elastic... Especially beef bone).

Once there was time to think about it, I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. I mean, what are the odds of that happening? I always thought he was fine with everything because he's such a meticulous chewer, but it turns out that chewing things to mush has it's downfalls too!

I let him have it back for a few closely supervised minutes, so he wouldn't end up with "bone = scary thing happens = mom freaks out and takes bone = bone must be bad." And then that thing went in the garbage.

I think our funniest moments with RAW must be the first night I gave it to them. I'd picked up a bag of chicken quarters to start with, and I handed one to each of the four dogs. The three puppies, without exception, looked at me as if to say "what am i supposed to do with this?" and my 12-year-old, who'd never eaten anything but kibble, took hers between her paws and just went to town, as if to say, "well, finally! some real food!" The pups all looked at her, and followed suit!

Marley

Can I Fetch It!?- Yes I Can!

Id say one of the funniest moments for me what the first raw Marley had. He was born and raised the first 7 1/2 weeks of his life at the dog boarding kennel I used to work for. All he had ever eaten other then Moms milk was puppy mush of kibble and canned. I was bringing him home on a Weds (he was getting his shots that AM, and I was taking him home after work) So on Tues night at work I brought him a chicken wing. He was only 9lbs. So I took him out of his room where he was with his siblings and put him in a crate with the wing. He took a look at it then turned away and whined at me. I picked it up and held it in front of his face, he sniffed it.. then just whined. So I left him and his wing in the crate. He whined/howled for a good 10-15 mins before giving up and sniffing the wing again. Then he gave it a little lick... and another.. whined some more.. licked the wing... picked it up, dropped it... whined ect... finally after being in the crate for about a half hour he picked it up and chomped down! Then he chewed it all up, it took him about 5 mins. After licking the crate floor clean he looked his cute little face at me with big eyes like "YUM!" The next night after he came home I gave him another wing. When I was handing it to him he took it out of my hand and literally attacked it!! After that he knew what real food was laugh out loud

I LOVE going dog food shopping at the store! Nothing is more fun then a cart full of whole chickens, game hens and a few packages of liver!

I just remembered some funny raw moments when I lived on a hobby farm. A mother hen had just hatched her chicks. About fourteen chicks hatched, but five or six died right away. My daddy looked over and saw me picking up the chicks by the feet or head, tossing them straight up in the air so they would flip end over end a few times, and then catching and swallowing them whole! It was pretty funny looking. I would also get fresh eggs every morning and one time he gave me an egg and it was crunchy. Daddy looked down and saw little feet poking out of the eggshell! I guess that one was ripe!laugh out loud

Carmen Von- Woofer

Grab life by the- bones...

So, I actually just thought of a few situations.

A couple weekends ago we were all down at one of the neighbor's houses and there were a bunch of us all hanging out. (Kids, adults, and 2 dogs) Carmen and the other dog were actually playing in the center of the circle that we had all pretty much made by just standing around chatting. This little girl came out and said "Wow! Why are Carmen's teeth so white?" "One neighbor quickly responded with "Oh, well she's still just a puppy!" And then I chirped in with "Raw Meaty Bones" I'm pretty sure that complete silence fell so fast that even the dogs looked in my direction to see what everyone was looking at! What can I say? laugh out loud (My husband later told me the look on the little girl's face was priceless! I hope I didn't set her up for a lifetime of nightmares!)

Then that same weekend I had my husband's mother and friend over for dinner and somehow the conversation of Sardines came up. For whatever reason I mentioned that Carmen loves them as a snack. The friend could not believe what I said and responded with "Huh? You give your dog sardines?" I went on to tell her that I also fed her Salmon. She knew that Carmen was on a home prepared diet and asked "So, do you really cook every meal for her?" I said "No, not every meal, half the time I just feed her raw!" And that's when the fork came to a dead halt on her plate - nice, eh? One of those "can you pass the potatoes" moments......laugh out loud
