That ia an excellent perspective, Onyx..

As for the recall, Frankie is just one of those dogs that his curiousity gets the best of him, and if he hears or sees something and wants to go investigate, I could be holding a freshly grilled steak and doing the macarena and Frankie would ignore me and go after whatever it is he sees or hears...confused

Oh, I think my husband is a genius! I was telling him about wishing our yard was fenced so Keeva could run.........like you wish too Frankie! We have a yard that is at least an acre and a half so fencing it is out of the question for us. He came up with a great idea today when the sun was shining! He tied a long, long rope to Keeva and attached a small bucket to the end. Keeva could run but had to drag the bucket which slowed her down a little...at least enough that we could catch her if we had to. He stood at one end of the yard and I at the other and we took turns calling "come" to her and treating her when she got to each of us. Wore the little bugger out! LOL I suppose this would only work with little dogs unless you tied something weightier for a larger dog but hey, it might just work for you too!cheer

Oh my...now I'm envisioning Rexy running through the fields, dragging a large tire behind her! big laugh
That is a particularly hilarious mental picture, thank you!

On a more serious note, good job coming up with a solution! Just make sure that the bucket doesn't scare your pup as its bouncing behind him.
Another good way to practice recalls is to do "restrained recalls". One person holds back pup while the other calls and begins to run away from them, as soon as pup starts to struggle to break free, let them go!
