So today I took my dogs Mozart and Bella walking on a trail and then we went to the dog park. Well at first there were only two dogs there and then eventually a bunch more small dogs came. And a lady and a man brought in a puppy in the small dog section along with two kids one in a stroller uggh I hate when people bring kids into the dog park it is not a playground my yorkie is snappy towards kids leave your kids at home a dog park is not safe for children. The dog looked small maybe 3 or 4 pounds looked like a lab but was white cream colored they said it was a lab golden retriever pyrenees mix and I asked how old and they said today it turned six weeks old, I held my tongue but please tell me I am right that first of all they should not have gotten a puppy at 5 weeks old even if it is a large breed and the puppy should not be in the dog park without all of it vaccines it could pick up diseases. They were not there that long maybe 20 mintues and they left a little bit before we did put a harness on their puppy and walked it on the trail isn't the puppy two young to be walking on trail? and it seemed like the dog was kind of limping when it was in the dog park its back legs and hips seemed to slip, I felt so bad for that puppycry

Definitely way to young to be in a dog park(I mean to begin with it's still to young to be away from momma). I mean just imagine/ all the nasty things a puppy could pick up(gotta love uneducated people right)! I don't even take my crew to dog parks(I used to but not anymore) and if I were to I'd def wait till it had all it's shots.

yeah, that's really dangerous for the puppy, and really I wouldn't even walk a puppy that young. That can create joing problems later in life. Especially for a large breed dog like that one will be.

I don't like to see puppies leave before 12 weeks, honestly. If they got the puppy at 5 weeks old, it's clear the person who bred the dog wasn't knowledgable.

I definitely wouldn't bring any of my dogs to a dog park or even a public place until they've had all of their shots! Even at the vet, I don't let them walk around on their floor - I hold them the entire time. I also agree that six weeks is WAY too young to be leaving his mother and five weeks is just plain ridiculous. Some people just don't know, though - realistically, I've met more people who DON'T know these common sense rules of thumb than ones that do. It's sad but in all honesty, I blame the person that gave/sold them this puppy more than I do the owners - they should have been the first ones to know better! That being said, I DO blame the new parents for bringing that baby to the dog park at such a young (and unvaccinated) age...he could get sick. frown

We have a pretty big property so our "walks" consist of walking around our own yard until they've had ALL of their necessary shots. Wicket's old enough but we just brought home BoBo so he's restricted right now until he's had all of his shots up-to-date. For me, that's just too risky to take the chance on him getting sick.
