Sorry that your pup isn't feeling well. Unfortunately, this is an example of why it's so critical to do in depth research on the breeder before purchasing a puppy from them. What has happened to you is extremely common in puppy store purchases of small/toy breeds or BYB dogs...these small breed mixes often come from puppy mills that mass produce puppies for a quick buck. It can be tricky to distinguish them nowadays, many millers use people who pose as back yard breeders in rented houses as fronts and ofcourse, pet stores are a big outlet for them as well.

You likely have a sweet, small mixed breed, perhaps min pin and dach. which is a fairly common combination. I hope you continue to care for him, he's adorable and an innocent puppy. I have a mixed breed dog, too, and I couldn't be happier with her. Congrats! Odie is such a cutie! cloud 9

I HATE to see these posts come up. Sad for the little innocent puppy, who just wants to be loved. Sad for the owner who really wanted an "A" breed dog and got hoodwinked by an unscrupulous breeder. I always wish we could educate the prospective puppy owners BEFORE they got taken in by the BYB's, Puppy Millers, etc.

I understand why the owner would be upset to find out her 'Min Pin' was not, as I sure would! What would *I* do -- I'm not sure.

This happened with us when we decided to buy a Rottweiler we got a mixture of GSD/Rott. We had spent $400 on her but now we see she's worth every penny. Truthfully, your pup looks like a MinPin/Dachshund. We were upset when we found out our dream breed wasn't as expected, but we gave Alice and chance and we are so glad we did. smile

When I was at a pet store, some lady was buying what she was told was a purebred puppy and when they gave her the papers *after* she paid for it, they said it was a mix. Needless to say, she was not happy about that. Odie does not look purebred, but I hope you will love him anyway. Doxies aren't *that* big if size is a concern. I hope he feels better soon!

He is very cute, I hope he gets over his illness and continues to grow and thrive. This is why its really important to do your research and go to a reputable breeder. I think Odie is stinkin adorable and whatever he is, you continue to love him and enjoy him.

Well, he might look more like a min-pin if his ears were docked. But, that's a pain in the butt, and I don't think he's purebred, anyway.

I'm sorry you got hoodwinked by a disreputable breeder. Tiller is very right. Often, puppies can look like one thing and end up another. That's very common in mixed breed dogs.

Typically, min-pins go for !,000 for a pet quality dog and higher for a show quality dog, so if you thought you got a "bargain" on a purebred, typically it's not really that much of a bargain.

To the person who bought the rotti mix, $400.00 is not much money at all to spend on a dog. I know rescues who charge more for puppies then that, let alone reputable breeders.

I personally wouldn't buy a rott from someone unless they worked their dogs in some way, just because they're so much dog and temperaments can be an issue. That's not even mentioning health issues that can crop up in any large breed dog.

I hope that you decide to keep him and I hope that he feels better soon.

To anyone just reading this thread, please do your reserach. Especially with little toy dogs who are only companions, make sure that your breeder health tests and shows in conformation at the minimum.

The breeder should make you feel like you're very lucky to get a puppy from them, not pushing a puppy at you.

Okay.. I'll go against the crowd on one thing ... and give your vet a funky eye on another. He'd leggy so he's defiantly not dach mix. Those stumpy legs are a dominate trait that Is set in the breed so you don't get leggy mixes... That said I'm actually going to say that he's just not a particularly good representation of the breed. That doesn't make him Not a min pin.

Did you see his parents or was he a pet store puppy? pet stores get puppies from mills/ and commercial breeders and as a general rule their breeding stock is not going to win any shows, and often the toy breeds are either grossly over or undersized depending on what they're breeding for.

That all said.. he's still the same dog you had yesterday and his parents don't matter so much as all that. I Hope he's doing better health wise and I'm sure you and he will look forward to many lovely years together.
