Introducing Griffin

Got a new, young, furry love in your life? This is the place for you to ask all of your questions-big or small! Just remember that you are receiving advice from other dog owners and lovers... not professionals. If you have a major problem, always seek the advice of a vet or behaviorist! Hello, all! In my post about Piper's death in the Saying Goodbye forum, I talked about an Aussie puppy that we were fostering over the weekend to see how the addition of a dog would affect our household dynamic before making a decision. Violet, our Collie, does very poorly as an only dog and was inconsolable, barely eating or interacting with anyone. She perked up whenever she was around other dogs, and my fiancee and I both felt that it was best for everyone to consider a second dog sooner rather than later, for Violet's sake and frankly, to bring some light and laughter back into our home.

We unexpectedly came across a local rescue that had a litter of 10 Aussie puppies and was looking for fosters. We explained our situation and they were very understanding and we agreed to foster a puppy and after the weekend, start thinking about whether he would remain a foster, or stick around permanently.

It's been a few days now and he is doing wonderfully. Violet is a new dog - she adores him, nurtures him and plays with him. We weren't sure if we would be ready so soon and didn't want to make a rash decision, but he's really wormed his way into our hearts. He's an amazing puppy, very smart and funny, and he's been a joy to have around. There seems to be no reason not to keep him around.

So without further ado - introducing Griffin. party

He certainly has been so far. We had him at the vet on Sunday and he was just fantastic. They had an emergency come in while we were there at the clinic so we were there for about an hour, which was great socialization for Grif. He just absolutely soaked up the attention and people just gush over him so it was fantastic.

We had him at the Petsmart with us today as well, obviously no floor time before at least another set of vaccines, but we were birthday shopping for Violet and he was just so phenomenal with everything. He takes things in stride and really "enjoys" meeting new people. I suppose its what a puppy "should" be but its so foreign after the daily maintaining that we did with Piper.

He's been a breath of fresh air for everyone, it has been really hard after Piper. Extremely hard. We knew on some level that the day may come where she crosses into a line where there's no going back, but I don't think you can ever be prepared for when it does happen.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcomes. smile

We're currently in the battle of the housebreaking and hoping that comes and goes quickly, but between the puppy antics and laughs we get from them it's quite worth it.
