We recently adopted our little girl Stevie and we can't quite figure out her breed. She's clearly chocolate lab but her ears don't quite fit the lab mold and something about her eyes and shape of face make us think she's got another kind of breed in her. When we adopted her she was 4 months old and 18 lbs. She had parvo as a puppy (before we rescued her) so I'm not sure if that would stunt her growth during her 3rd month. Now that she's healthy, loved and in a routine at home, she's growing really quickly (we'll know her weight friday but we're guessing around 25 lbs and a week away from turning 5 months old).

Will she be as big as a lab? and What kind of breed does she look like to you?

any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Temperment/personality wise, what is she showing you? So far, looks to be either some Pit or Catahoula in there based on the face shape, eye color, and ear placement......

looks like a super adorable lab/pit mix to me, my friend has a lab pit mix named Bruno and Stevie looks EXACTLY like him! Bruno is 64pounds (he's 5 years old) they've had him since he was a puppy too.

Thanks for responding.

Temperment wise - She's a definitely a puppy with a ton of energy. She's a lover and loves to chew her toys in our laps or while she cuddles with us. She's mouthy when she wants to play (she'll nip our feet or nip or hands) - and that's the big issue we're working on now. She uses her voice when she's in a play mode as well. She loves to play fetch.

Stevie had a playdate with my friend's dog yesterday (first playdate) and she took the submissive role kissing Reed's nose, putting her face below his but also testing his boundaries because she wanted to play.

I thought if there's a pit in the mix, that it becomes the dominant trait in the dog?

Are there issues we should watch out for? I don't know too much abot pits other than the fact that they can be aggressive, which makes me nervous

She is absolutely gorgeous! cloud 9

I see no Pitbull in her at all. She looks as if she could have some sort of herding breed in her though, maybe Australian Shepherd or Border Collie thinking

I definitely see chocolate lab in there, but other than that, not sure. It looks like Australian Shepherd ears, but I'm sure several breeds have those kind of ears.

And I wouldn't worry about her being a pit mix if she is. My parents have a black lab/pit mix and he is the SWEETEST dog ever. Wouldn't harm a fly and loves everyone. He's very calm and gentle.

It really depends on the dog. APBT are sometimes known to not get along well with animals, but they are well known for getting along well with people. (Assuming some idiot doesn't train it to be aggressive.) Since you are socializing her from a young age and she is already getting along well with dogs, I wouldn't worry about it at all. She sounds like a gem. smile

also, do you have a picture of your friend's pup Bruno? I'd be so interested to see what he looks like.

We can kind of see the pit in her ears/eyes but her face is not very big and her jaw is not wide.

I just looked at some pictures of the Catahoula and I can see that as a possibility too - except for the coat of fur.

Stevie definitely has the chocolate lab in her right?

Regarding the herding breed comment - I had a dog when i was younger who we think was part cattle dog and something about her face shape reminds me of her. Too bad we could never really figure out what she was.

Do those breed tests work?

also, not sure if this narrows it down but her eyes practically glow in the dark. They're big and gold - unlike any color I've seen. Is that a trait of a specific breed?

I can see Lab, Pit, and ACD in her. She's adorable, and congrats on your new pup.
