George, even if the puppies are delivered intact, there's still no reason to withhold pedigree information once proof of neutering has been received.

George, no need to see the website, your breeder sounds pretty good. I disagree about the number of litters per year, of course, but everything else sounds great! Speaking of admirable breeders, here are a few we admire at this house:
Chelsea Collies
Clan Duncan Shelties
The Shepherd's Collies
Foggy Bay Collies
Arrowhill Collies
Sterling Collies
Snovali Collies and Shelties
Collie Creations

You will notice that they are either Collie or Sheltie breeders. That's because we are diehard Collie/Sheltie fanatics!big laugh

George, I just spent like, 20 minutes reading the connemara website!

Everything looks great, except I could not find the pictures of their dogs... the adults. They also do not have any pictures of the kennels, except for one aerial shot. Do you know where on the website they have pics of the dogs they are breeding?

Kiona, each dog has an individual page devoted to them... my breeder is in the process of renovating the website and is getting the dogs' pages back up as we speak. That was one of the things that initially drew me in... each dog has multiple photos, height/weight stats, a temperament/personality profile, and even a list of likes/dislikes! (For example, Sully's sire, Seamus, has a few favorite things: 1. Playing in the puppy yard with everyone at once! 2. Sitting in a lap... any lap will do! 3. Playing rough with Poppy and Erin. His dislikes are few, but my favorite is 3. When Erin takes my cow hoof - I bark at her!) She's in the process of moving to a brand-new facility, but if you'd like to see more pictures of her dogs and their old home, you can always email her and she'd be more than happy to send you pictures. She loves talking about her dogs!
Addy, I do have pedigree information for Sully... I can trace him back to about 1898, when the Connemara lines were founded. If you have complied with the spay/neuter agreement and you request a copy of the dogs' pedigree, she'll supply you with the information. big grin

Ah, okay, that wasn't the way I understood what you were saying before. But yes, that's the way I'd expect it to be.

Still too many litters, though. I know you think it's a petty objection, but six litters a year means, if she's spacing them out as much as possible, a litter every two months. And that means she always has a litter on the ground. And that looks a great deal like commercial puppy production. Very high-grade commercial puppy production, maybe, someone who does everything else right, maybe, but commercial puppy production.

I am so confused, the way I am reading this is that the breeder wouldn't supply the pedigree of the pups until you have had them spayed/neutered?

Sorry for the stupid question, party

Java, no question is a stupid question here...

My breeder will supply you with limited pedigree information until you provide proof of spay/neuter. At that time, if you'd like an expanded pedigree, all you have to do is ask. I personally don't see why not having access to the full pedigree right away is an issue unless you're looking to breed... in which case, my breeder most likely wouldn't sell you a puppy anyway (she typically sells all pups under spay/neuter contracts and its very rare that she'll sell a pup with breeding rights). Hope this clears up your confusion! big grin

Thanks George!

I know that when I picked out my first Dane, I scoured the pedigrees with the intent of looking for good health and longevity. I would be concerned if enough information was not being provided to me for that type of research.

I can totally understand the papers not being provided until spay/neuter is done though, that's common practice.
