Here's a pic of Teddy, my little Pomeranian! I've had him about two weeks now, and he's 12 weeks old. He's the most adorable puppy ever smile. I love spending time with him. He LOVES running outside when I take him on walks. He's also very smart; he got leash trained very quickly. Now I'm working on his potty-training.

Also, do you think Teddy is a red sable? I was trying to figure out which color described him.

I think "red sable" is traditionally a reddish/dark orange undercoat with some black guard hairs, "orange sable" is a lighter orange color with black guard hairs- Dogs of these colors have black noses and brown eyes.

"Chocolate sable" is red-orange undercoat with dark brown guard hairs- no black is present at all in the coat. There are also "beaver" pomeranians, which have more of a cream undercoat with light brown guard hairs- they also have no black in the coat. Dogs of these colors have self-colored (brown) noses and have eyes which vary in shade from amber to green.

Based on that, I would say Teddy is a chocolate sable! Such a lovely color cloud 9 That's what Kip and Oogie are, granted Oogie has darker brown chocoloate sabling, darker amber eyes, and a chocolate face mask. Kip has a dark reddish-brown sabling, light green/amber eyes, no face mask, and more white markings. This is a photo of their mom, Izzy, who is a chocolate sable pomeranian:

Anyhoo, hope that helped! Teddy is lovely big grin It will be fun for you to watch how his fur changes from puppy to adult- some pups end up getting more dark guard hair while other pups seem to get lighter!

Congratulations on your new puppy! Teddy is a cutie. I'm guessing that he'll lose his black hairs with his puppy coat so he'll no longer be a sable when he grows up.

I agree with the chocolate sable suggestion, although don't count your chickens before they hatch! After he goes through his uglies, he may end up a darker or lighter color, or lose it completely with something new!

Pidgeon is right- Pups can stay similar to how they were or change dramatically coat wise as they age!

If Teddy stays similar to the coloration he is now or gets darker (ie: darker red/orange and more brown guard hairs), he will be a chocolate sable. If he gets lighter (more towards cream colored, less brown guard hairs), he will be a beaver (not the animal, thankfully! Just the color laugh out loud )!

My best guess is he will mature in to a chocolate sable, but either way he is totally adorable and will grow into a gorgeous adult smile Take lots of pictures! It's fun to look back on puppy pictures and see how much they grow and change the course of that first puppy year happy dance

Also: if you are interested, here is a neat website that has a bunch of information on dog coat genetics: Dog Coat Genetics The "B" series gene is what is responsible for making brown puppers. Depending on the breed, brown/brown shaded dogs are called either liver, chocolate, red, or just plain brown! In pomeranians I believe they are referred to as chocolate, since "red" is the term for the traditional reddish hued pomeranian with a black nose and brown eyes.
