I would also like to add that a sheduled feeding helps to figure out when is the best time for productive pottywalks and lessen the chances of "accidents" .

Theo uses pee pads while I am out for the day and he free feeds. I agree with Sparky that it depends on the dog but they can’t overeat and get overweight if you only serve the amount they are supposed to consume daily. Theo slowly nibbles on it throughout the day and I remove the bowl at 9PM every night. It works for me because he can also relieve himself on the pads. If you don’t pee pad train, it may make more sense to schedule feed so your dog doesn’t have any accidents. But personally, I love that Theo can eat when he wants, just like me!

Taz free feeds with dry dog food. He uses a small potty with artificial grass and doesn't have accidents. He eats a few morsels every few hours and paces himself. When I go visit my mother who has two dogs on a schedule (due to overfeeding) he does get two smaller timed meals and switches back and forth easily.
