Hi to all my fellow paps wave

I have a question about my floppy ears if anyone could be so kind to help! Mom says they give me character, but I still feel a little insecure about them sometimes. Does anyone know why my floppy ears might have happened? My ears were up and down as a puppy, and at some point Mom even gave me small amounts of cottage cheese to help, and at one point they were huge and stuck straight up, but they just ended up floppy at some point.

I guess I'm just wondering why. Could anyone explain? Thanks pups!! big grin

Bisou has floppy ears too. He is about 6 months old and one was up one down, both down, both up, now it is one and 1/2. The other comes up when excited. My BF says he needs puppy viagra. Ha Ha! A breeder told me you can tape them. I might try that. Bis' are getting better. She also told me that some are weak, and that's how they'll be. How old is you dog?

Cottage cheese works wonders not sure why but it does. Yours might just end up being a Phalene though??? Nothing wrong with that. Although I looked at some pictures and your ears dont look all that floppy. My sister was really small. They werent sure if she would make it or not. Now shes showing and doing well, but she had floppy ear issues. Combo of cottage cheese and just growing out of it helped.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I ate cottage cheese as a puppy to make them stand up but not consistently so I guess it didn't work. And my ears aren't bent right from my body, so I'm pretty sure I'm a Pap just a Pap with lazy ears. confused

I'm one year and three months now, so I've (well, Mom has) read that nothing can be done about it now. Or should I try eating cottage cheese again? I was just wondering why this would have happened?

Riley might just end up growing out of it. Hes only a year. But with Daisy I fed her 1 tsp of cottage cheese for lunch everyday till it seemed pointless. She always had nice ears but at one point when she seemed to start to grow like a bad weed her one ear got lazy and it helped. She has gorgeous ears I do think. Plus it cant hurt cottage cheese is yummy!!!

A very nice show breeder told mom that sometimes the ear is too large, or the cartilage is too soft and it just bends. She said Phalenes are pretty rare, and the ear shape is different than a regular Pap. I am 6 months and my ears are down more than up (well 1 is down, the other is kinda everwhere). If I get excited or just wake up they stay up for a while. Cottage cheese is yummy but we don't see much results. I get it at least 4-5x a week. Have to tell mom to get more!

Yeah, I really think mine are probably a combo of both those things-- my ears would be huge if they stood up, and when mom feels my ears the cartilage is hard at the bottom but not further up. I'll be floppy eared forever! Thanks everyone. smile

I'm a Sheltie/Pap. My ears stand up like a Pap's, but they *almost* tip over like a Sheltie's. Sometimes when I walk, they bop up and down! My mistress think that's cute.

Hi! This pic is of Reggie, my Phalene Papillion, a couple of his brothers were phalene, some were "regular" papillions.

Reggie's ears have never stood up, phalenes are just another type of the breed and show at the same level as "upsies" so regardless of whether your furbaby has upsies or downsies, it really makes no difference, they're still great dogs!

Reggie can't be shown because he has a pink spot on his nose, but to me, thats what makes him special!

I think his ears are like that becaue of his genes. Some dogs just have floppy ears and no matter what you do, they will be floppy. Cottage cheese may help when they are teething because it helps replenish some of the Ca+ lost when the puppy is teething, but it probably won't do anything after that phase. I have known Paps with soft/floppy ears who went erect on their own when the dog was several years old. I think they are adorable!
