Shellie gets new collars about once a month smile I have one for every holiday/season and some 'general' ones. I'm obsessed smile I love Lupine Collars and love the fact they are guaranteed even if chewed.

I hate the way Lupine collars never wear out. They are so pretty I want more of them but haven't any excuse. Sassy's 11 year old Peeking Ducks collar looks like the day I bought it. Only reason Max got a new one is the old one was too small for him and I got sick of smashing his poor ears taking the martingale off after walks.

I don't think I have ever destroyed a collar, they just get shabby and tired looking. The plastic clips sort of worry me but never have had one fail. If you use those you might want to replace them on a regular basis.

Buy away. Maybe invest in a cute clip so tags are easier to move from collar to collar? Even better, make up an ID tag for each collar and just move the license tag.

Joey Diego - CGC, Therapy- Dog

Where did mom- go?

I guess it depends on the collar. Although Joey and Layla have A LOT of collars that I rotate through so they last longer than if they wore one everyday. They also have special collars they wear when they are at the dog park or swimming, so they do not mess up their nicer collars...I know, I have a problem...red face

Joey does have his first collar I ever bought him five years ago, it is leather and it still looks great. He wore that one for almost 8 months before I started to go collar crazy. And now he wears it probably every three months for about a month.

I have a list of online sellers (see below)
I also use prong covers on plain old flat collars to brighten them up - it's a cheap way to satisfy a collar fetish laugh out loud

Bella is averaging 1 a month so far.

But I ordered her and her new sister custom buckle martingales with matching leashes. I plan on them using those for a while. They were much more expensive than the pet store kind. I don't like just buckles cause they can pull out of them (which Bella did when scared) and I don't like just the martingales cause its torture to get them over big hound ears.

Buckeye

Eat, Sleep &- Play! Yes, Life- is Good!

Mom gets us collars all the time! We have Winter collars with snowflakes, but none for any other season. Except for when it get's to be around Fall, we'll switch to our red collars because it just fits the season. We also have blue collars, and just fun one's that say "Life is Good" and Buckeye even has one with his name engraved in to it. When Buckeye was a puppy, he had a smiley face collar. Mom thought it looked girly for him! They thought that they were going to get a female puppy, and had already gotten a collar that was full of smiley faces and girlish colors. Buckeye broke it within the first few days we brought him home. It wasn't strong enough for him!

Anyways, we normally buy these collar covers to wear around holidays. We have fourth of july, christmas, halloween. Tons! We have some fun bandanas that we put on, too.

So over all, we probably switch collars every few months, depending on how bored Mom gets with it. We don't really mind what were wearing. HeeHee.

shock wow, after reading everyone's responses I feel sorry to the dogs!!!!

Luna has had 2 collars in her life. We only got the second one cause she outgrew the old one when she hit about 7 months old. Her current one is Lupine.

Lilith has had umm.. 1 collar. And we didn't buy it. When we picked her up at her breeder's she had it and she never outgrew it.. it's by AKC.. ironic, cause AKKs aren't AKC recognized.. bol.

Lantis has had maybe 4 in his life. His current one was brought by my sister when he was staying with her 3 years ago. It's still fine though, it's by Lupine.

They don't use them to walk cause we have harnesses for those, but they only have 1 harness each, too.

I'm starting to feel like the dogs could use some dressing up too..

I did pass a boutique at the mall the other day, they had swarovski crystal collars with interchangeable charms.. it was so cute. It was also $50. confused

But now I guess I can rethink my position... BOL.

Thanks guys, for helping me spoil the dogs more..

Aster

Let's go for a- swim

Barked: Thu Jul 1, '10 9:55am PST
As my puppies grow, I am continually switching to bigger ones, but have used the same collars on each new puppy for years. I mostly use simple, basic leather ones that mellow with age. Some of the ones I bought in the early 90's wore out. I salvaged the buckles and made new ones with some leather I salvaged from a trash can after a battle reenactment. After Aster retired and came to live with us, I looked and looked and didn't find a collar for her I liked. I finally bought one that was too large at Wal-Mart and cut it down. After a few years, the dog guide school gave us some reflective fabric collars with their logo on them. Aster wore one of them her last year or two. Her replacement has now retired and lives with us. He is in the same collar. Thanks to Raven, our puppy, it is looking a bit ragged now.
