I didn't know if this is something to post or not. I am just so worried about my family getting sick. There are SO MANY KIDS out of school here and business' that don't have enough workers. I was at Target and I asked one worker why the long lines to pay? He said over half his staff was out with the flu! Then I hear on the news that is happening all over!

My family was sick the whole month of July. My five year old son ended up in the hospital for a week with pneumonia, breathing problems, dehydration. They don't know if we had swine flu or not but it sure sounds like it.

How is it where all of you are? Is there lots of people sick? How are you handling it?

It's pretty crazy over here too Bella and with winter fast approaching they expect it to get worse before it gets better. However the vaccination programme starts from next month i believe although they have said there is not enough currently to treat the whole population. People in the at risk category will be vaccinated first.

It is a worry to some degree to me as people are dying from it but then again people die from the common Flu every year too.

Sunday night a 13 year old boy died from H1N1 flu. He played in a hockey tournament all weekend, he was feeling sick but he said he needed to be there for his team. His parents gave him medication and even though the boy felt a little ill played his games with heart. Sunday they took him to a walk in clinic, he was talking and alert, the doctor told them to keep giving him the fever meds and take him home. This young boy passed away in the middle of night. They concluded he passed away from H1N1 (swine flu.)

I am concerned about it but not worried if that makes sense. My family and I have always practiced good hygiene when it comes to touching things out and abound. I always carry hand sanitizer in my purse and when I go shopping a use Lysol wipes for washing down cart handles...some people look at me strange but that's okay. Even in public washrooms after washing my hands I always turn the taps off with a paper towel and open the door as well with a towel or my sleeve. I never understood people washing their hands, then turning off the germ infested taps with their clean hands (your hands are dirty again) and then opening the germ infested door handle...YUCK!!!!!
Always remember, unwashed hands should never touch your face.way to go
I'm not going to change the way I live my life but I will continue to do everything I can to keep those nasties germs from entering my body.

Deogie, I heard about that. I am like you in the precautions I take. Since I work with seniors , I am seriously considering the vaccine, but I am wary. I have never taken the regular flu vaccine and last year my client and her friend did, yet we were all sick with the same flu. AFAIK , there have been no deaths here yet. After reading about the young hockey player my 16 year old daughter has decided to have the vaccine. I think that is a wise choice for her, as this flu *appears * to have the worst effects on young healthy people. If it wasnt for me working with people with health problems, there is a good chance I wouldnt take the shot. I am concerned because although the regular flu also kills people who usually have other health issues, this one can land healthy people on a ventilator. That does not sound like a pleasant prospect to me. I am not worried, but am concerned enough to consider the vaccine in my case.

ETA my husband and son have no interest in the vaccine. Interesting that it is the females considering it smile

It is very sad about this young boy. The thing that throws me for a loop is the fact he played in a hockey tournament all weekend, went to the clinic on Sunday he was walking, awake and no congestion.
He went from having minor cold symptoms to dying within 48 hours, his father said.

Bunny I thought everyone working in health care is reguired to have the vaccine. Maybe it's different where you are.

That's because the females are smarter.....big laughbig laughbig laugh

That is so sad a 13 year old died. Very scary. I'm not giving my son the H1N1 shot. I'm worried about the side effects. Doesn't sound like a safe shot for young kids. My son had a speech delay as it is. I am too scared to risk the side effects. He is only 5 yrs. old. I had to take him to his speech session today in Minot and once again went to Target and only 3 lanes were open. People were coughing and sick all over! I have the hand disinfectant and use that a lot! I just can't believe how this swine flu has spread and how many people have it! This is way worse then the regular seasonal flu. Plus it started so early. I used to take the flu shot when I was working at the Nursing Home. But, it seemed everyone still got sick anyway.

Hope it goes away soon!

Deogie its because I am sort of on the border line of health care. I am a home care worker, working in private homes. If I worked in a hospital or nursing home, I would take it. My client wants it, so she will be protected.smile

Here we had been out of shots. In Minot one center got shots in after a long wait and their refrigerator FROZE them and they were no good. Now people have to wait again. More and more people are sick here. It's on the news every day. It's really too bad since some people could benefit from the shot. Only thing is it takes two weeks to be fully effective. It'll be too late for a lot of people. I still wouldn't give it to young kids tho.

Wow that is scary and sad about the boy but it seems to really be affecting youngsters the most. Makes halloween even more creepy. I do not wanna get sick, I am very anal about washing my hands and face often and I take lots of vitamins and such but idk if it will be a cureall persay. I am too scared to get the h1n1 vaccine as its too new and that bothers me. I have yet to get the flu vaccine too though, everyone online has me scared crapless to get it now with all the bad things about it, I had it the past 3 years but not sure I will this year

Dodger you are beautiful. You look so soft.smile

I got my hair done yesterday and my beautician was telling me her Grandson 10 months old just got out of the hospital after 4 days in with a temp. of 105*, dehydration, and pneumonia. He had the Swine flu. That is so scary.

Still a shortage of shots here. I'm not taking one after reading so much scary stuff about them. You tube has a lot on them too.

We have been washing our hands like crazy! My son said, Mom NOT AGAIN!! Poor kid. But when out shopping we just have to be careful.
