Neutering

Hello!

I'd like to ask owners WHO'VE HAD their male dogs neutered-- how's your pet doing?

My MS is pretty obedient until he gets in the zone of barking excessively (and by excessive, you'd think it was a big dog barking and wanting to rip through the gate!) at the noise outside, at children and strangers, then it becomes hard to command him to stop. Half the time he does it with his tail wagging. The other half, it's quite aggressive to the point of lunging.

I'm doing some more training and socializing, but some people recommended to have him neutered as well. Most of what I read recommended it, but there were a handful (including his vet!) who recommended otherwise.

Yes, on the issue of reproduction, I can opt for vasectomy so that's covered. It's castration and effects on behavior I am interested in. I like my dog's fun, hyper personality and I'm worried this might dramatically change as it did for some that I've read of. I just want to lessen the aggressiveness. One even described it as short of "lost the will to live" lol. His was still a good guard dog but no fun anymore. So that's makiong me paranoid...

It would be great if you can share your experiences, regrets, relief, etc?

Thanks!

Chewy's snipped and he is just as energetic as before. I didn't notice a difference at all.

Thanks for the input... This survey's to help my paranoia, lol.

Chewy's VERY cute! I wish I can bathe him like you do, standing steady. Unfortunately, it's always a game and a struggle with mine. He does drink A LOT of the water from the hose, as if to trying to finish off the water so there's none left for the shower.

Both my minis have been adopted so both required being fixed. With Tweeker we had him in tact for about a month or two before we were able to get him in to be fixed. He was the same dog after surgery as he was before, minus the marking ( his marking was so bad I could not take him into petsmart, he even marked me at the vet).
With Max, he was fixed before we got him and he is a very sweet, energetic dog.
For me, the research I have done, it seems that the pros of fixing out way any cons. The biggest pro for me is that it can reduce the chance of cancer.

Thanks for the input. After researching and reading so many positive feedback on neutering, I was just puzzled why MY vet recommended not to have my dog fixed... weird. But it seems it's good to go. Thanks again.
