Hello. I'm new here and had some questions for fellow schnauzer owners. Norman has seriously dry skin and i was wondering if anyone else had this issue and what you did to remedy it. I was also wondering what type of food everyone feeds their dogs, norman seems to put weight on very easily without eating much (no more human food!) Thanks so much for all the info!

Hello Norman,

I too am new, and have some skin issues myself. My mommy calls me "pimple butt" because of it ~~ 'ain't' she mean?! *just kidding here.*

In all seriousness, I do have acne towards the rear... not actually on my rear (got that momma!), and plan on having my mom ask my vet what he thinks should be done ~~ if anything ~~ especially since Mommy Dearest picks on 'em! (again, 'ain't' she mean?!)

I have a voracious appetite and my mom has to make sure I don't gain weight. I used to weigh 30 lbs. and now I weigh 27. Though my vet says I should weigh 25 lbs. It's been difficult to lose the last 2 pounds. Mom keeps me very active ~~ however, I do love to eat, love to snack, and love to ask for more and more snacks. What can I say? I love food! Though mom & dad keep the people food to a minimum.

I am given Nutro; Natural Choice for my hard food and soft food, and organic treats.

Anyway, nice to meet ya, and I look forward to being a part of this forum.

I get Natural Balance organic (dry) and Mom bathes me with Tropiclean, which seems to help with the dry flakiness I used to have.

My mommy gives me Natural Balance food and treats too! She bathes me in a doggie oatmeal shampoo. Sometimes, if I have a serious spot that is irritating me, my mommy puts cortizone cream on it.

My mom just found out about NuVet (wafers), and plans on trying it for my skin issues. (and notes many breeders use it as well)

If you go to their website, they also have special shampoos ~~ mom wants to try tea tree one.

Just schnauzer sharing, me, ~Strauss

p.s. Though ~~ I don't like baths! wink

the Tropiclean we use contains oatmeal and tea tree.
Mom doesn't like the new bottle, though, because it is very thin plastic and too easy to accidentally squeeze and squirt!

Hi I have skin issues too and now can only eat Nutra dog food in cans and dry food. I am allergic to high protein foods and this dog food is better for me. Had the dry skin and itching and then started licking and chewing on the feet. Went to the vet and found out it was allergies and after a lot of research found Nutra. Works great!
They also have treats which is great as I am still in training... DAILY!!!!

Charlie had dry skin also, he just couldnt stop itching and licking, we got him some oatmeal shampoo from petsmart and changed his food from beneful to blue buffalo (about $30)and it helped him 100% no more dry skin! no more itching, on the other hand tho I havent noticed his stools being softer he is not emptying his anal sac when he poops (wich means they are softer) but anyways there y0u have it ...
