I usually add it when I add the water so I can mix it in well. Minerals can be added anytime. Something like fish oil or Nupro probably needs to be added as the food is served up.

the reason why i ask is that i have recently noticed what looks like the ground egg shells come out in there poops. i have always added the egg shells just before serving but started to doubt myself.

I found that I needed to bake the shells until they are crisp to get them to grind up well. Unless they are a powder the dogs may not be absorbing the calcium. Even using a coffee grinder I needed those shells crispy. Annoying. I would use the microwave sometimes but the oven really works best. Since it is a mineral it doesn't matter if the shells get brown or not if they are baked too long.

I save the eggshells in a dish in the fridge and then roast them in the toaster oven when I get enough. They always grind well for me that way. I store them in a dish in the freezer.

I give Bonzer crushed eggshells (bought finely crushed. I've never noticed any in his poops but then I only look at them if I suspect he has worms

We grind ours in a mortar and pestle , so they are really fine. We have noticed if they are too chunky they do pass in the poop and you can see them, so they need to be really fine like a powder.dog

I blend the egg shells in the blender into a fine powder and pour it into a glass jar using a sifter. The fine powder will go through the sifter and into the jar, while the bigger pieces of shells will rest on the sifter itself. Then I will blend these pieces once again to make them fine.

So far so good, I dun see them coming out from her other end.
