I read your not suppose to give them more then 1 tbsp a day and it has to be pure pumpkin, not the pie filling. I think you also need to ajust according to dog size as well, I only know my dogs get 1 tbsp. Think there is also a max on how many days in a row they can have it.

Personally, I find it easier just to give them a carrot every other day or so, and I never have a problem with them going to the bathroom. Not that they did to begin with, but they do like to try and eat non-edable items so I like to make sure all is well for them.

Pumpkin, carrot, natural peanut butter, things like that are all used as laxatives for dogs. Which is, if you think about it, no different for us. If it makes us "regular" and its doggy safe, odds are it will work for your dog too. Just monitor the amounts given.

Pumpkin pie filling can be toxic because of the spices, Nutmeg in particular...

I give my dogs pumpkin pudding during the holidays. They love it. I've never seen a dog eat so fast! lol I don't think nutmeg is toxic, but all the canned pumpkin I buy is pure pumpkin, nothing else.

Yes, get pure pumpkin... it is a good source of fiber. Don't be too liberal with it BOL... could get messy...
