Hi all you Dane lovers. I learned an interesting thing about Great Danes in the last 2 weeks and thought I'd share. My best friend's Great Dane just had a $4,000 surgery for bloat and his stomach twisted. I mentioned this to my vet b/c I worry about my Saint Bernard and bloat problems. He said that whenever he spays or neuters a Great Dane he goes in a sews the stomach down to prevent flipping. I realize they can still get bloat but this seems like a great idea to prevent flipping. Just thought I'd pass that along.

YES! Thank you for sharing this.

This is something ALL breeds prone to bloat should have done.

It's non evasive since they are already being fixed, and can be helpful in bloat prevention. Although not a cure-all as you stated.

The best way to prevent bloat is to take extra steps as a pet parent and supervise and train your dogs to eat and rest after eating/drinking.

Most vets will probably not charge extra for stomach tacking either!

Thanks for passing it along. Sampson was tacked before he had a chance to bloat. We had it done with his neuter when he was 6 months old.
