Sabrina is right ....... its best to pinpoint what you're allergic to. My sister Brandi ( RIP ) had CONSTANT ear infections throughout her 9 years. Mom tried every drop, gel, cream, cleaner & homeopathic remedy around to no avail. In Brandis last year we changed vets. IMMEDIATELY he knew it was a food allergy causing it. Because she was already in very bad shape and not wanting to do testing on her he had my Mom start an elimination diet. He said BEEF is the most common food alergies in dogs !! Can you believe it ? BEEF ! 70% of our food & treat choices are beef for Heavens sake !
Mom switched our food to Nutro lamb & rice and stopped giving beef treats, table scraps etc. Within one week her ears cleared up and remained that way right up until she crossed Rainbow Bridge.

Trust us, if you do the elimination thing ........ start with beef.

Good luck, feel better & keep us posted !!

I'm allergic to chicken, well, I think so anyway. Mom pays close attention to my behaviour on foods, and when I was on the chicken formula of Sensible Choice, I got really itchy and my whole body looked and acted bad. So mom tried the lamb formula, and the itching cleared up, but everything else was the same (the smell of the poops improved, but they were still terrible). Mom then tried California Natural, the chicken formula, and while my coat and poops and everything did AWESOME, I got itchy again, and some other allergy-related symptoms popped up (ears are getting dirty, which I hear is part of allergies, and I'm eating everything in sight, including grass). So mom believes I'm allergic to the chicken. She's got the lamb formula of California Natural now, and is supplementing the food with the lamb formula of Solid Gold wet food. I've only been eating it for a few days (Solid Gold for the past couple of weeks) so it's too early to tell if the itching is gone. Mom's hoping everything will be okay soon, I hate being itchy.

Yes, Natural Balance is great for allergies. Wysong and California Natural are also really great, too. Some things that cause allergies are corn and wheat. Those are the most common. So, try and stay away from foods with fillers like corn and wheat.

I used to have REALLY bad tear stains, always runny eyes, and itchy ears (that's why I pulled out almost all of my beautiful butterfly fringe)! Mommy kept trying me on different foods...here's what happened on each one--

Science Diet Nature's Best (mommy says this was BEFORE she knew about the horrible things in it) - runny eyes, itchy ears
Blue Buffalo - runny eyes, itchy ears
Welness Super5Mix Chicken - runny eyes, itchy ears, loose stool
Innova EVO - runny eyes, itchy ears, loose stool
Innova - runny eyes and somewhat itchy ears
Canidae - no more problems!

I know that Canidae isn't considered a food for allergic dogs, but I seem to be doing GREAT on it. No more tear stains at all, and I don't itch my ears anymore! Mommy still doesn't know what was bothering me, but Canidae definitely does not have it!

Good luck on finding the right food for your allergic pups!

Before switching to raw, my last dried dog food attempt was IVD Prescription Hills Vegetarian because I was VERY sensitive, even to the small amount of beef in the Allergen-free formula (yes, it DOES have meat). I've been okay with chicken, but recently I tried lamb and veal. Mommy made a mistake by giving me lamb and veal 2 days apart and I broke out with yeast on my paws and ears againa, RATS! So now I'll have to wait a full 8 days before I can try that great lamb again to see if that's what caused it. Chicken and Salmon are pretty much all I eat (plus a few natural supplements)

I don't have any allergies, but my Mom does. She can't have soy or gluten in the house at all. When she got me, I was eating Canidae and she had a close call with anaphylaxis on the ride home! Daddy was really worried. Mommy discovered that Canidae contains papaya--she didn't realize dog food would contain papaya! While papain might be a great digestive enzyme, Mom's deathly allergic to it.

Right now they're feeding me California Natural Lamb & Rice dry food. They also give me yummy pumpkin. She's been looking into some green food to feed me, but I'm happy with the yummy grass that grows in the yard. I don't eat the crabgrass or bottlebrush grass, just the nice fescue that never gets mowed more than once a month because Dad hates lawnwork. She wonders if yogurt is a safe source of probiotics for doggies. She always has organic yogurt with live cultures because she likes her frozen fruit smoothies. It smells good and I keep trying to convince her to share!

My Mommie also rec. Wellness there are several variety's including simple solutions in duck or vinison for more severe allergy's. She know's alot about this food & has been approached about being a rep. for Wellness! Wellness is all we eat it is all natural & contains no wheat or corn (which are both grasse's) & my "sissy" Sugar & I both have grass allergy. It is the ONLY food they sell at the Pet Boutique where she works. They can't keep it on the shelve's & everyone is amazed at the differance it has made! They use Tyson Chicken Breast in it!! It is full of good vitamins we need. And because of no grasse's you can rotate flavors!! We eat the Lamb & Rice, Super 5 Chicken & Duck!!! Not only is it good for our coat but makes us feel lot's better!! Anyone wanting more info just ask Mommie has a brochure at home she would be glad to help!!! Good Luck! IzzyBee
