I recently have been putting canned food in with my puppy's dry since she is starting to get her adult teeth. She won't eat her dry.. I found this food at petsmart called Simply Nourish. It's ingredients are great. The first can i bought and opened was chciken and pasta and i kid you not it smelled like chicken noodle soup. The thing that i'm confused about it sthat it has Tapioca starch in it. Good or Bad ingredient? What are your thoughts on this?

That's Petsmarts own brand of high quality food. Many high quality foods use tapioca, nothing wrong with that. My only issue with it is that it's kind of pricey for what is basically a store brand.

its not as pricey as wellness, blue buffalo or innova. I actually don't think its that bad. Just never seen tapioca starch as an ingredient before.

It is not a bad food, I bought it a couple of times. The only problem I have with it is where it is made. It is not made in the United States

That's my only problem with it, too, Duncan. My sister bought a few cans for Ninja once and he loved it the first two days. After that, being finicky, he wouldn't touch it again. The ingredients looked fine to me. I just never included it in my dogs' rotation because of where it's made.

I didn't even notice where it was made! Thanks for pointing that out. And here, it's one of the most expensive foods in the entire store. shock

It is manufactured in Thailand, as are many other pet foods with a similar appearance (Weruva, Tiki, Soulistic, BFF). We use the Chicken, Fish and Pumpkin variety as a topper and Savannah goes bonkers for it. It is one of the few canned foods I could find that appears to be very low fat, high moisture, and doesn't contain ingredients that disagree with Savannah's delicate system. I'm not thrilled about it being made in Thailand, or about the lack of comprehensive nutritional, manufacturing, and safety information on PetSmart's website. What I do love is it is about half the price of Weruva (and seems to contain more meat and less water), is easy to buy locally, and looks like real, recognizable food. Also, Dog Food Advisor gave it 4.5 stars. We will continue to feed it, with some apprehension.

The tapioca starch is used as a thickening agent rather than something like wheat or corn starch. It is less allergenic than other starch sources.
