I haven't tried Orijen with mine, but thought we'd take baby steps and try Acana. They've been on the Pacifica for over 2 months now, but still soft stools. I guess it just depends on the dog. shrug

My boy had very loose stools with Orijen. Switched to Acana and now we have no problems smile

From what I've heard, Orijen is best suited to active and working dogs, whereas Acana is great for average-activity dogs.

They're both wonderful quality foods, but point blank, a working border collie has different needs than a couch-lounging pug, just like an athelete's dietary needs are different than someone who works in an office. The same basic requirements for survival are there, but if you sit behind a computer all day, you're going to react adversely to eating the same level of protein a body builder does. About the same goes for dogs.

I find that people stress the importance of an ancestral diet in dogs but not of an ancestral lifestyle to go along with it; for some dogs, it's really too rich to be on a food like Orijen.

My Mom’s Maltese was on that food and it was too rich for her little system to digest. Poor baby had diarrhea from it. I did tons of research for my mom to find a grain-free dog food for her that wasn’t too overloaded with protein. She now eats Natural Balance Alpha and is doing great – no more messes in the backyard. It has probiotics in it too which definitely seem to help her sensitive tummy.

I transitioned Carter to Acana (the Pacifica formula) about three weeks ago. We haven't had any problems. His stool is fine (not too soft or mushy or anything... gross to talk about but just saying lol), his coat seems a tad softer and shinier (could just be my imagination though) and he loves the food. Sorry that I don't have a whole lot to add since he's only been on it for a few weeks, but just thought I'd say he's had no issues and Acana is a food I feel great about feeding to him.

Tucker & Phoebe both ate Orijen and Acana as part of their kibble rotation before we switched to raw. My mom's Bichon still does, and neither he nor they have ever had any issues with either brand. Orijen you definitely feed less of, though. Generally that seems to be the case with most people who have soft poop issues with Orijen. Reduce the amount and the issues will (usually) disappear.

Due to the Diamond recall I do feel seriously about switching Kashmir's food. I beleive at the dog show we grabbed a bunch of samples and Acana was one of them. Ill have to check but how are the prices in your area for this food? I would be buying a bigger bag as Kashmir is a large dog.
