Hi everyone...I'm pretty new here to Dogster and am looking for some input/opinions. I put my new pup, Bella, on Blue Buffalo puppy after bringing her home last month. She was on Pedigree with the breeder and we switched her over the course of about 2 weeks. I have 2 other dogs that are currently eating Nutro Ultra Holistic and I was planning on switching them as well - but now I am hesitant. Bella seems to poop more than I would expect from a dog eating a high quality food. Its at least 4 times a day and its very, very soft. Although I have been a little curious about this, I really become more so when I saw another poster pose a similar question.

Has anyone gone through similar issues? I am debating switching her over to the Nutro Ultra like my other dogs. Thanks for the input!

Haven't tried Blue Buffalo but I had a similar experience with Wellness. It was rated 5 stars and seemed like a great choice for me. But Luke's poops were way too soft - almost liquid sometimes. Plus he had awful gas and his poops stunk to the high heavens. I switched him to Diamonds Natural and mentioned it to the vet. She didn't seem concerned and said that works for one dog, won't always work for another. She said both foods were great, but just stick with the one that works for Luke. Maybe Blue Buffalo just doesn't click well with your baby?

I rotate Hazel's food, and I can definitely say that some foods make softer poop for her even though they are all high-quality foods. As Luke said, it varies on an individual basis. You have to find the one(s) that work best for your dog.
You have many other options left to try besides BB. Transition very slowly, make sure you aren't overfeeding, and check for worms if the problem continues.

All of my pups are on Blue Buffalo Wilderness and they are doing great.
Make sure you check the bag and give the right amount of food. The kibble is smaller than the Pedigree so in reality if you give 1 cup of Blue, it is more than one cup of Pedigree.
Overfeeding is a very common cause of soft, frequent stools. If you double check and adjust your feeding and it doesn't help within a few days it may not be the right food for your dog.
One other thought is worms or coccidia. Both are very common in puppies and it may just appear that it's the food.
Good luck to you!

She sees the vet regularly and was checked for worms and has had her de-wormings so I'm not concerned about that. I can probably try cutting back the amount she eats as I know she eats more than the "recommended" amount, but only by about 200 or so calories and thats because she is extremely high energy. I appreciate the feedback thus far. Any ideas about how long to try the less food to see a change? That is - if that were to be the issue?

I won a bag at a dog show once. Out of seven, only two ate it two would not eat it at all one got sick and the others would not eat the life source hunks. I even mixed it with their regular food and it was not good mine left it. I work at petsmart and we get at least two bags of it back each week because of problems in manufacturing

I had issues with the food in the fall of 2010, but that was part of the recall. Blue handled the recall extremely well, didn't deny anything or pass the blame. They refunded me for every penny of the vet bill for Sarah, and now she is fine. I stopped feeding it for awhile, but I got a few more bags donated recently. I've been feeding it for a few months now and have had no issues.

Make sure hat you are transitioning slowly from the old food and make sure you aren't overfeeding. My dogs almost always have great poop on BB Wilderness!

I recently had a young dog returned to me because she was "sick all the time". Took her off the BB, put her back on the Pedigree, no problems. I have spoken to a number of people who have had the same issue with it. Pedigree is not a great food but a lot of dogs do well on it. I fed it for years with no issues but my dogs diets were heavily supplemented. A number of people I know use it with dogs who are sensitive to higher protein foods. Try cutting back the food but honestly I wouldn't personally keep feeding the BB.

I agree with those saying make sure you aren't overfeeding. Feeding too much of a high quality food can cause the problems you're describing. If you start feeding less, I would give it at least a week to see if there's a change.

I had my adult dog on Blue Wilderness for a while before I switched to raw and he did fine with it but some foods just don't agree with some dogs, even if they're good foods and you're feeding the correct amount. If feeding her less doesn't help, BB just might not work for her and switching to another food would be a good plan.
