Sirius- Padfoot- Black
Too clever for- Mom's own good!- :)

I feed TotW with a canned topper and some fish oil (not cod liver oil, but a fish body oil)and it does wonders for him!

I came, I saw, I- chewed. |

When I called the vet for a recommendation, they told me he still needs that large breed puppy formula and that Nutro was "okay". I liked the Wellness better and it wasn't that much more expensive that the Nutro. (same price but I noticed that Nutro is a 17.5 lb bag instead of 15 lbs). I'm sure I can find it cheaper somewhere else and when he no longer require the large breed puppy formula, I'll have lots of options.

I don't remember the percentages right now, but when i called Taste of the Wild to ask what percentage was in their puppy formulas it was within the range that is appropriate for large breed puppies, you can call them yourself if you are interested in switching, the nutritionist is very helpful.

More Food! More,- more, more- please! |
| Barked: Thu Jan 5, '12 5:23pm PST | | | | | Even a vet is just guessing without the bloodwork! Congrats on the rescue. We use Blue Buffalo now and find we're able to feed much less of it than or previous food (Nutro Ultra) so it goes farther making it more cost efficient. | | | | |

| Barked: Thu Jan 5, '12 6:19pm PST | | | | | Thanks, Emma! I think I remember reading something about that...I think it was below 3% but please don't quote me on it. Interesting. All my experience is with adult and senior chihuahuas and I feel like a new dog owner all over again. Sigh.
Bella, I'm guessing the vet will want to run her own blood work to check everything out. Probably not a bad idea, so I'll have a baseline for him.
Thanks again, everyone!
BTW - I am noticing some loose stool/diarrhea but I was told that might happen with the sudden change in his food. Because his prior diet was a mix of donated food, I couldn't gradually introduce the new brand. His poops seem to be almost a yellowy/mustard-brown versus the dark brown when we first brought him home.

Mr. Jake the- Beagle
I am Murphy's- Law Embodied! <3- Me! |
| Barked: Thu Jan 5, '12 11:00pm PST | | | | | jake had the same problem. When i first brought him home. I noted it and mentioned it in passing to my vet after our visit a week after i brought him home. It was due to stress and new dog food. Keep an eye on it and mention it to your personal vet. It should tighten up (aka get harder) as he gets used to his diet. When i pulled jake off authority because of his allergies and put him on Wilderness Blue he had the runs for like three days then he has been and still is regular. | | | | |
