What does it mean when a particular food causes LOTS of poop, whether it be solid or not. We are generating A LOT of poop. Buddy's is formed, Sadie's not! We are currently eating NL beef and millet. Thanks! wave

To me, that means your dog is getting fed either A) too much food and pooing out the excess, or B) a cruddy food and pooing out what they can't use. I remember you feed high quality foods though, so I'm thinking you might be overfeeding? How much do the kids weigh now and how much are you feeding them a day? Remember that generally the suggestions on the bag are more than needed. Also, foods with complex carbohydrates are harder for a dog to digest, so they generally have larger poos because they couldn't digest it well. That'd kinda fall into category B anyway though.

Hi Pumpkin King (cute) wave

Buddy is about 66 lbs. and Sadie 64. They each eat about 2 cups a day, I'd say. They aren't into kibble, so this is a "eat to survive" thing smile

Hmm, 2 cups seems reasonable. thinking Is it a grain heavy food in your opinion?

Hmm, well, I remember you've had lots of food woes. So, if it doesn't bother you and they're doing better on the NL than with others, I wouldn't worry about it. Otherwise you could return to the great cycle of trying different foods.

Also, what exactly do you mean by a lot of poo? How often are they going? What size are the poos? Have they been dewormed or had a fecal test done recently?

I've noticed also that on the TOTW Pacific Stream my dog's poops seem larger. But to me, they are solid (a vast improvement), and while the quantity seems a bit more, I also don't think I am overfeeding. I don't really know why they are pooping more now, but since it is solid, I really don't have any complaints. I'd rather have more poop than diarreah again! Bol! If it's not severe, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially not if they are doing better on this food than on some of the others you've been on.

Bama's poop is smaller on TOTW pacific.
Brodie's is smaller one we went to NB sweet potato and fish vs food w/grains.

Maybe the grains are what made their's larger bc TOTW is also grain free.

They've both been dewormed, and they had a fecal over the summer. Sadie has actually had lots of HS's, and Buddy has been alright, just a LOT, I don't know how to describe it without a picture, BOL! It's formed, but it's a pile, not a few tootsie rolls, if that is helpful big laugh

I'll probably try something new, although I did have blood tests done for them on Weds., and they will be tested for food and environmental allergies. Results are due back in about a week I think, so part of me hopes it's a particular food, that'd make me feel better. Is that weird? thinkingred face

No, and I know exactly what type poo you're talking about. Is that sad or what? laugh out loud I'd hold out until you get their allergy results, then go from there. Personally, if that was my dog's poo status I'd probably try a different food, as well as trying a completely new protein source or novel grain source (ie, not rice). With our kitten it took months to get stellar poos, and she's only had what I'd call acceptable poos on ONE food, out of tons. Isn't it so strange how that works? Cat foods are super limited though. Just keep trying for that one magical food that both your dogs do great on and will actually eat, it's out there somewhere! What all have you tried?
