Has anyone heard any bad things about Canidae? I talked to a representative at Canidae after hearing and reading some things on the internet. As she mentioned, anyone can say anything they want on the internet. I was just wondering if anyone has heard that it can make your dog sick.

I DO feel sorry for Pippin, but I also believe that not every food is right for every dog, and that you shouldn't stay away from a food if it makes only a few dogs sick, even with a gradual transition. I know there's at least one dog on dogster who got very sick after eating Natural Balance, yet there are a lot of other dogs who are doing great on it! I think every dog is different, so keep an open mind!

I agree with Allie. While Max and Xena both did poorly after the ingredients change, I don't hesitate to recommend it to other people. I have a couple of friends who's dogs do fantastic on Canidae. There is certainly nothing wrong with it. Some dogs don't do well on certain foods, and that is really what it boils down to for me. If your dog doesn't do well on it (with mine, it became a vomiting issue), then switch to something else. But it's certainly not a bad food. My dogs have done poorly on a number of premium foods, doesn't mean they are bad, just that they didn't work for my dogs.

We tried a 44lb bag of the Canidae ALS. The dogs did fine on it but some had terrible gas. Actually, we have had gas issues with most foods made by Diamond. I'm not sure what it is, but there must be something Diamond puts in there or does that makes the dogs gassy. We went to Nature's Variety Prairie and all is well.

After speaking with the representative from Canidae, the lady informed me that the food is all regulated and that it might just be that our dog cannot eat certain ingredients and that Canidae may not be for our dogs. We did end up buying another brand, Taste of the Wild and we are gradually weening them off of the Canidae. It's hard to know sometimes what to do and of course we don't want to feed our dogs anything that would hurt them.

Thanks for the responses.
