Why don't you consider a home cooked or raw diet for him? Human food is fine if it is something natural for dogs to eat. For instance, boiled or raw chicken is good, potato chips or fried chicken are bad for dogs.

Check out the raw forum and/or the home cooked forum for more ideas

Maybe you can dress up the basic food with just enough healthy food so your little gourmet will accept it.

c ould help you learn how to train him to eat what he is given. I don't think I could be as strict as is written with a tiny dogs but modify it by pretending to feed many times a day perhaps.

And last, tiny dogs eat tiny amounts of food. My sister insisted her tiny dog eat two cans of Cesar a day and the dog was a cute piggy shape when she naturally was a lean very active terrier. I would try counting out kibbles rather than measuring them. He may be eating better than you think. On a clicker training list a top agility competitor fed her papillon a ridiculous number of kibble a day, less than 20. She had to smash up those to make enough treats to do any clicker training! I just hope those kibble were large in size.

If Harley is other wise healthy, I would say when you feed, I feed twice a day, put the food bowl down for 20 mins, if he doesn't eat, then pick it up. Then wait until dinner and put the food bowl back down, again for 20 mins. If he doesn't eat, pick it back up until breakfast. He will eat eventually. Dogs won't let themselves starve.

I did this for Wisp when we wanted to get on a potty training schedule, she was a finicky eater at first. I also tried toppers and things added to commercial dog food, but it was turning out that I was making her the picky eater. If she snuffed some food, I would put something better in there. She learned that if she waited long enough a steak would fall into her bowl.

I'm not sure what kind of dog food you are feeding, but you could up the quality. I was feeding my dogs NB, then when I switched to TOTW and Instinct, they about flip for their food.

Now she eats when I feed her, breakfast and dinner. And she knows that if she just has kibble she will eat that and a topper is a (frequentlaugh out loud) treat added to her food.

Feeding raw or home cooked would be an idea too. I am going to feed raw eventually, once I research it more.

Wait, my dogs eat "human food" every day. We call it "food". Health, happiness, and quality of life are what we get out of a well-balanced raw diet.
