For a while now, Meko has been on Blue Buffalo Homestyle recipe canned food. She loves the food and it lasts her AND Nabi a while, so it is okay on our budget. We switched to canned food because both Nabi and Meko hated EVO small bites dry kibble. Before that, they were on Innova puppy dry, and started showing disinterest in that kibble as well.

I was wondering, should I try the Blue wilderness kibble, or Blue Buffalo fish and sweet potato kibble, or should I just stick to what she eats?

My opinion is, if she likes the Blue Buff canned food that she is eating, and it's within your budget, I would stick to it. I've never fed the Blue Buff canned, only the kibble when we were feeding kibble, so I don't know if they have various "flavors" so that you can rotate protein sources? If they do, I would do that - I don't like the idea of only giving one protein source ad nauseum. A, I think it's boring for the dog, and B, it can lead to an eventual intolerance of that protein.

Have you tried mixing canned with kibble? Or maybe rotating the two? I eat Blue Buff large breed kibble and absolutely LOVE it (but then I am not even a remotely picky eater). I ask about the mixing or rotating because eating solely canned food for a lifetime can lead to increased dental problems such as tooth decay, especially in small breeds, and especially in poms! The crunch of kibble actually helps to clean teeth when they chew it, so it helps to ward off tooth decay and plaque buildup. If your pups like the canned, I certainly wouldn't deprive them of it, but I would try to at least mix some kibble with the canned so that they have that hard, dry food to crunch on.

If they refuse to eat the kibble and you have to feed canned only, don't be too distraught. It just means you need to stay behind their dental health. Regular brushing (once or twice a week), dental chews, and dental appts with your vet every 1-2 years will help keep those pearly whites healthy!

Kibble doesn't really clean teeth. Just like eating croutons doesn't clean our teeth. In fact, it can be argued that kibble is worse for teeth because it is typically chewed and it gunks up around the gumline (like what happens when we eat crackers) whereas canned food doesn't do that as much (it's often slurped up and swallowed). I think they're pretty equal though. You still need to brush no matter what you're feeding.

Juniper, I brush Meko's teeth everyday. Like Sedona said, kibble doesn't clean teeth. Thanks for trying to help though. I am aware of pom health problems too. smile

I did mix kibble and wet before, but she won't eat the kibble. I guess I will stay with the canned food. Yes they do have all flavors. Chicken, salmon, venison, turkey, beef, and lamb. She has tried them all. BOL. XD I rotate between flavors.

If you want you could try adding water to the kibble first to make it a little mushier and then mix in some canned, maybe they wouldn't even notice the "ucky" kibble that way!! wink

Good idea Cloe. I can try that actually with the EVO small bites I still have downstairs. I don't want it just going to waist.
