We completely get it now! My mom learned that sometimes you should really read all 33 pages b4 you post - BOL! Just like w/ppl food everything is pretty much more than we should have. If we had not found this thread..we would have really made a mistake; both in avoiding a food we deemed too expensive and figuring out how much I really need every day vs what (xyz company) says I should have. BOL - they sell more food this way I'm sure!! No wonder some doggies get chunky!

I'm not too big on raw veggies so the canned/frozen veggies is a great suggestion. I'm guessing no corn so what types of veggies did you use? When we make pot roast..I really really love those kinda carrots. We should start freezing some of those carrots for my food. applause

I finally got the math for Diamond Naturals Extreme. bol Now I'd like to compare to my food I'm feeding now(it's main ingredient is corn). But I'm not sure where to find the calories. It's Riverbend High Performance and Riverbend Basic Nutrition, both 50lb. bags for I wanna say close to 18 or 20 bucks. We get it at our local Co-op.

I can't even find Riverbend's website.confused Any idea who makes it? It might say on the bag somewhere. Like "Manufactured by Such-and-Such."

BOL Craven! We are not sure where you're located at, but if you have local area pet supply stores - independently owned who carry some of the better food - not all of it is really high dollar - they will have sample bags galore that you can take for free to help so that you don't have to buy a whole bag of food to find out you don't like it. If you live in a rural area, I'm sure if you contact the companies they may send you out samples too.

We took all of the samples we didn't like and we are taking them to my groomer to use as snacks for her customers!

Just looked on the bag earlier and it says "Manufactured by Seeds Inc. in Memphis, Ten." I'm gonna try to get the ingredients and other information(fat, protein, etc.) on here soon.

Maybe this is covered somewhere in the thirty some pages of this thread but I am not going to read all of them.

The formula given here is incomplete. This formula is for Resting Energy Requirements (RER) - that is if your dog gets absolutely no exercise at all or if you want him to lose weight. You have to multiply that figure by a factor of 1.6 - 8 depending on the activity or stage of your dog's life.

If anyone is using this formula as is you are grossly underfeeding your dog.

Here is the link to the complete formula

Most Dogsters have found that the other formulas suggest to feed far too many calories. If the formula here says too few calories the individual sent to this calculator. Link
