Not many people feed it. People who worked for them bombarded the forum and spammed us all within an inch of our sanity. Turned everyone off the food.

If you want to e-mail the company to find out the kcals/kg I'll add it to the list.

Btw, most of the foods recommended here have more calories per cup than LA. You can buy any food online and have it shipped to your door too.

shrug Thanks so much for all of the effort you put into the first posts on this thread! So Helpful! So, my dog was just diagnosed with allergies - atopic - but I'm embarrassed to find out I've been feeding my dog c.r.a.p. Sigh. Now we are on a dog food adventure..which is not a fun adventure and we have information overload! Not sure if his food is something causing a part of his allergies...but I'm trying to do anything I can do to curb any factors to avoid a very costly maintenance situation for the rest of his life. Different food...baths once a week with oatmeal shampoo/cream rinse (soap free) during allergy seasons and on doxepin 25mg 2x per day.

First, if I'm calculating correctly Loki weighs 17 lbs and he's 4 yrs old. So:

17/2.2 = 7.72 X 30 = 231.6 + 70 = 302 calories per day?

So, heeding the advice of many posters who refrain from purchasing food @ national chain pet stores..I've sought some of my local area pet supply retailers. We came home with lots of samples. Loki seems to be more attracted to BEEF. Not alot out there with Beef so I'm wondering if beef is bad? I've done 3 series of taste tastes..placing 2 small bowls with different dry food (California Naturals, Innovo, Fromm, Wellness) in each and he continues to gravitate towards EVO Red Meat. $37 - 13 lb bag and $75 - 28.6 lb bag. **Gulp** **Smelling Salts Please** The recommend serving size for 17 lbs is 3/4 to 1 /18 cup per day. However, calories per cup is 487. If my calculations are right..this is more than he needs...but reduces his total food per day to just over a half of cup between meals (breakfast/dinner)? Wow...1/4 cup per meal or so isn't much - but I get that is my human perception. I've been trying to calculate how long a 13 lb bag would last.... I've hit information overload! At such small amounts..there is no value or savings to buying a large bag...afraid it would get stale b4 we used it all..even storing it in airtight container.

Between monthly grooming, weekly baths (supplies), the antihistamine, food and snacks, K9 Advantix, Interceptor we are quickly approaching $125.00 per month before I calculate annual vaccines, heartworm test and stool check. shock

We are quickly approaching budgetary contraints cry I am fearful I will not be able to get his allergies under control.

I love my dog more than anything!! If anyone has advice on another beef dry dog food...or can figure out how many servings per 13 lb bag...we would be very grateful!

Can anyone tell me what they think about Kirkland dog food from Costco? The ingredients seem pretty good, especially for the price at $24.00 for a 40 pound bag.

Lamb, lamb meal, Whole grain brown rice, white rice, rice bran, egg product.

These are the first few ingredients in he lamb and rice.....??? It is made byDiamond.

You might get different opinions on this, but personally I think Kirkland's food is pretty good - not the best out there, but certainly adequate for most dogs. It's certainly far, far better than Beneful, most Science Diet formulas, and Purina.

Loki, A lot of times beef and chicken are common allergies that's mainly why we stay away from those for Brodie.
Try to find a single source protein and carb to start and of course grain free.
Natural balance potato and duck and sweet potato and fish are good ones and really helped Brodie's allergies. They are low in protein so U can add salmon to the food if u want.
Try a new food for at least 4-6 weeks before u give up. It can take time to see results.
We are now switching the doggies to Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream and seeing how they will do on it. Allee and Bama are doing fine and Brodie is just getting half NB and half Taste of the Wild right now. His food allergy comes out in skin problems and digestive problems as well. So far he is doing fine on the TOTW. We will see!

Brodie and Sedona..tyvm for the kind replies! If my mom can get 49 cups of food from a 13 lb bag...I get to have the EVO Red Meat...I think I like it the best..but right now she's mixing it 50/50 with my old food and we still have 9 more days to go until I'm just eating the EVO. Were my calculations right for the amount of calories per day? Wow! so if you add in my snacks and my two pill pockets...I must have my walks to walk off those snacks!! I only get a few snacks a day...but I'd take more...AND I'll have some of whatever my mom's having...I try really hard to get some..but this never works out for me...I stare in vain.

Anyway..Mom seems a lil stressed out trying to make me feel better and I'm sure grateful for you guys helping her! BOL!

Loki, I have a small dog, Fred (posting as Max b/c that's how most people know me) and on the premium foods he also eats very little. At 11 lbs, he eats about 1/3 cup split between 2 meals. When he was on his diet we mixed in some canned and frozen veggies to help fill him up. With the canned, get the no salt added variety. Veggies are very low calorie and help to get the volume to what they're used to eating. Plus, he feels like he's getting a lot to eat without all those calories. I think beef is not bad, but kind of expensive for a dog food, so many manufacturer's stick with the poultry. Lamb is another good meat source that is very flavorful, so you might try something with Lamb in it. But Evo is pawsome, so if that works, stick with it. The thing to remember is not to overfeed because it doesn't look like a lot of food. This kibble is very dense.
