ok that sounds more logical, I knew I was missing something. Still would a 16.5 on bag really last 6 months? I had Origionally thought she'd need a bag every 8 weeks I guess I hadn't realized just how little her servings were going to be.

Well, that number is a low estimate. It seems to be a good equation for many house pets here, but it might not be right for your dog. The Metabolic Energy Requirements For Dogs calculator says 244 calories for a moderately active dog and 195 for a less active dog. The Waltham calculator says 204 calories for typical, 167 calories for inactive, and 231 for active.

you don't by chance have a formula for figuring out a puppy's needs? champ is 12 weeks old now, he weighs about 10 to 11 pounds, is gaining just under 2 per week... he's a chow mix (i think he's got some german shepherd in him) so i figure he'll be medium to large when he grows up. i have to buy his next bag soon so i can start his transition from the eukanuba to something better

How do I know which activity level my dog is at? She and I go running/walking every morning for about three to four miles and at night we walk for about 20 minutes which is about a mile. Is there a calculator for activity/calories for dogs? I know there are some for humans... Can these be used for dogs?

You can use the 450 calorie number to figure the costs of foods.
