throw the- ball!!!!- PLEASE!!! |
| Barked: Sun May 18, '08 8:43pm PST | | | | | | you said it! and, with some of the weird kibble shapes, it can pack differently, I mean are we talking a cup scooped or a cup packed down like when my nephew wants extra candy and packs it down!
And for some dogs, a few kibbles is a big deal! Some of our small Chihuahuas only get 1/4 cup a day! That is like what, 20 kibbles??? Lol, in that case a few kibbles can make a difference!
And I remember on different companies websites, they dont all mean the same thing by a "cup", which I found weird, but true.
Anyways, Sedona was nice enough to work it out, and explain it easy, so why would we even need another way to figure it out?? Im sticking with Sedona's--its easy, accurate, well researched and put together, and I know it is right!

| Barked: Sun May 18, '08 8:47pm PST | | | | | | but we all agree on that we should feed good kibble! Dont worry, we dont disagree that grocery is
but i gotta add, I don't know how many cups are in my bag of kibble, and I can't see me sitting on the floor with the bag, a measuring cup, and a bowl.......measuring it out and counting cups! BOL!!!! can you imagine??? no thanks, my family already thinks Im a little nutty when it comes to dogs, all i need is for them to walk in and see that scene.....BOL!!!

Can we cuddle? |
| Barked: Wed May 21, '08 9:34am PST | | | | | | Sedona - thanks bunches for this. It is amazing the differences in KCals across different foods. I still feel a 'bite' when the cashiers ring up our food order each month now that we're buying the 'good' stuff, but they've never looked better. And, no more bad breath!
I apologize if someone else asked this, but, could you explain what each of the numbers in the formula represents? For example, why do we need to add '70' after the division and multiplication?
Also, does anyone know how long a typical bag of dry kibble lasts once it is open? Clearly the most cost effective route would be to buy the largest bag offered to get the best price per pound, but since better quality means fewer cups per serving, I worry about the food going stale before it is all used up.

| Barked: Wed May 21, '08 12:45pm PST | | | | | | Jasper, I have no idea what the numbers represent in the equation. Another Dogster, Rudy a Golden Retriever posted it in one of Daisy's threads. To me it seemed the most accurate equation to find the amount of calories a dog needs. The other ones seem to say too many calories.
A food naturally preserved will last roughly 2 months after opened so long as you take care to seal it as best as you can and keep it away from moisture.
