Just take the kcal/kg number and divide by 2.2. So it's 1773 calories per pound. You don't count the k(1000) in kcal.

On page 5 there is a list of foods broken down into cal/lb.

Thank you!! I figured out that if we fed Orijen, a 4lb bag of Orijen would last Moose a month and a half. A 15 lb bag would last him almost 6 months!!

A 15lb bag of Orijen would last Barkley 2 months. A 32 lb bag would last him a little over 4 months!

I am off to figure out with solid gold!!big grin

UG. I hate units. Pretty much 1 Calorie = 1 kcal = 1000 calories.

I think everyone here is using Calories because that is what we are used to in an everyday sense. So you had the math right the first time, Barkley. laugh out loud

Righty-o Hikerwink

Which food Barkley? If we're talking Orijen Adult Barkley would need 1 cup and Moose would need just over 1/3 of a cup. 1/3 is 0.3333333 and the actual decimal of 166/483 is 0.3436853 so it's just over one third of a cup. Just over 1/3 isn't an exact number, I know. That's one of the reasons why I did everything as cal/lb in this thread. If you were to weigh each serving of food Barkley would need .25 of a pound (4 oz) and Moose would need .086 of a pound (1.4 oz).

So during races with my sled dogs needing up to 10000 calories a day I owuld have to feed literally TONS of regular kibble to keep their weight up...I am definately going to use that formula and figure it out of some foods this summer and see what would be a good food for my racing team next year. I really do hate math...especially algebra...

Thanks Sedona!

It would cost me $172 a year to feed Captain on Carbou Creek Gold. That is not that bad compared to other foods. But then in racing conditions they need a whole bunch more calories and that would up the price for about 6 months out of the year.

Thanks for all this info!

PS I really do hate math...
