I used to eat Beneful and chewed my own hair off my body. I just moved to my new home and they are feeding me Avoderm and we are hoping it will clear up. Along with the really bad breath and monster poops. laugh out loud

I still agree with the point you made.wink It's not "cruel" to make a dog eat a food like Beneful, but if one has knowledge that the food is full of potentially harmful chemicals they are being "willfully negligent."

In the 50's it was commonplace for young people to smoke cigarettes, at least in the farming communities I am accustomed to. Most parents didn't give a lick so long as the kids did what they were told. That's why you see so many old men who all say they've been smoking since they were 8 years old. Most aren't lying, and those who are probably started smoking at 11.

In the 1957 Leroy E. Burney came out and said that cigarette smoking causes lung cancer.

My point, if you haven't fallen asleep yet, is that prior to 1957 people were ignorant of the harmful effects of smoking. Had everyone known that smoking causes cancer, fewer youngsters would have been able to take up the habit. However, after 1957 the parents who allowed their children to continue (or start) smoking were being willfully negligent. They were no longer ignorant of the harmful effects, but were allowing their children to consume dangerous substances. That's not cruel, but that's not very good parenting. In today's day and age a parent that willfully negligent could run the risk of having their children taking away from them.

So see, I still agree, but I agree with both sides of the issue here.

As the OP stated a few pages ago, the question has been answered so there is no reason for this discussion to continue.

Also, please remember to flag posts that do not fall under the community guidelines rather than debate the negative comments in the forum.

We know that all dog moms and dads (and sisters and brothers and grandmas, etc.) on Dogster are amazing pet pawrents/family! Please keep that in mind when/if implying someone is cruel or negligent towards their animal. Everyone here loves their dogs very much.
